Send me that map without the red and blue lines.....I LIKE IT!!! WooHoo!!! I like it marami!

As an American living here, I can say that I feel safer here than the travel warning would ordinarily lead you to believe. That's not to say that things don't or can't happen here but you have to balance it. There may have the occasional act of terrorism here while people occasionally shoot up a Mickey Ds or high school back in the US.

Being smart can prevent a lot of potential trouble.

philippines is a very safe place. keep a low key and as babydamulag said, respect the culture and you shouldnt run into problems. we are one of the most helpful and hospitable people in asia.

bad , uncle sam will frown on you !!! that makes their travel directive to the philippines useless.

so as far as Uncle sam is, Halthron-you are PASAWAY !!!! :D

.

How safe it is here? Well.....hmmmm???...... I've been living here my entire life and I've never been robbed or mugged. I travel to Mindanao (Davao & Cagayan De Oro, mostly) about 2-3 times a year...I see that there are still tourists who go there. There are even some foreigners who actually live in Mindanao. I know one dive operator in Camiguin who is British, and another fellow who is Austrian owns a bar.

If you are going to come over and you'd be staying in Anilao -- I'd say that it would be more than 95% safe. Hang-out with some of the pasaway guys and you'd be even more than 95% safe. The other 5% would depend on how you will take care of your self.
