We had to kick fairly hard through it but no real worries. We were still able to work our way through it and it really wasn't for that long. And it was SOOOOOO worth it!! Since it wasn't planned as a drift dive we had to get back to the boat..

How strong is the strong current?

When Yapak II is "on" it's pretty strong. I would guess 3-4 knots. Remember, the Visayas has 2 meter tides on new and full moon so there is a lot of water moving. But no worries...the guys or gals at Fisheye and Aquarius (Park Mi Young is the Korean instructor the guy was telling you about. She's a good friend) will get planted right on it and the current swirls just above and just below the edge of the wall. You swim just above, or below the wall in the eddie and you can maintain position. At the end of the wall there's a big cut loaded with yellow striped sweetlips and it drops off into the blue. There is a bicycle bolted to the bottom at about 65 meters if you can get someone to take you there. It is awesome. The best. Hank

Anybody every dove in Borakay? I know it's not an ideal dive site and there may be not much to see, but my family wants to visit there. Rather than hang around the beach might as well dive. I don't know any operators over there and some info would be nice.

Anyone of you from the philippines?
by the way, when are you going to boracay? It is a great place! It has a wide range of diving spots and a perfect place to party! It is one of the greatest beaches I've ever been to! If you're going to take my advise, why not go around december and march-may? it is the greatest time to be in boracay.. :dazzler1:

Me...at least originally. Been out since 1997, but going back about once a year to visit and dump the kits with the grandparents so that we can take side trips to other places.

I'm going sometime between mid October and early November. All my companions are going there for beach, and I'm the only one diving. It's busy season starting December, and I hate crowds. Don't you want the DM/Instructor to spend 100% of the time with you? That's why I never go anywhere during summer. Even here in San Francisco, it's pack with tourist during summer and all the limited parking just disapper.

Interesting post, now Borocay is on my long list of places to dive.

Great to see information disseminated. Thanks guys!

I lived in Iloilo from 1986-96, then Boracay for all of 1999. I remember back in 88 or so you could rent a bunglow for like, US$3 per night. There was nothing. Now I hear there's a little mall and they even took out the little cement bridge next to Han's and Fely's restaurant. I'll get back there someday. Two of my kids were born in Iloilo and have a lot of family there. I love the place.
