Hey, the guy was offended. I was joking around and offended the poor guy. It seems his gripe is legit and I didn't add anything worthwhile to the post. I make mistakes (about once a year). The regulars know me and this fella was new. Don't worry, I am still full of **** and will continue to be myself.

Mostly I found this thread interesting because it points out the 'truth in advertising' scene here in the Philippines. I was traveling in northern RP and saw an article about some senator/congresswoman/politician that was trying her best to get a truth-in-advertising law in place. I was kinda stunned as I assumed that would be one of the most basic institutions in a regulated market. Anyone know if this came to pass?

The amount of conniving that a lot of big Philippine companies (I'm looking at you PLDT and Meralco...) is one of the things I hate the most about the PI. Hearing about your investigation, think you can get a screenshot of it and post it here? That way they can be exposed for being idiots and liars.

My friend is the one who gets wound up more about these things, and he DID follow up with Philippine Airlines. And got no where. Here is a the reply from PAL (I don;'t have his origimnal email):

Dear XXXXXXX
Greetings from Mabuhay Miles Service Center!

Effective October 01, 2007, Air Philippines (2P) has ceased to be part of Philippine Airlines' Mabuhay Miles Frequent Flyer program. Mabuhay Miles members will no longer earn mileage credits, can no longer redeem award tickets, and may no longer enjoy SportsPlus luggage entitlement from Air Philippines flights including Philippine Airlines-Air Philippines code-share flights.

Air Philippines has deemed that it will more to your advantage if the benefit of flying with Air Philippines is immediately availed of by offering you the lowest fares rather than requiring you to accumulate Mileage points first before you can avail of your benefit.

At Mabuhay Miles | Home, you can access your account balance and Mileage Expiry Summary easily, update your personal profile, get the latest news, promos and exciting offers, and read the membership guide at your leisure time. Navigate your way through the site's enhanced design, and enjoy increased site security and improved user-friendly features. With just a few clicks, you get all the information you need. All the convenience right at your fingertips.

Thank you and we look forward to serving you on many rewarding journeys ahead.

Very truly yours,

Eileen Jover-Galindez

he replied:

Dear Mrs Jover-Galindez

Thank you for your response.

Please note however that you have NOT addressed my specific points regarding :

1.Misrepresenting the domestic benefits of Sports Plus card membership.

2.Not providing disclaimers to new members such as myself that Air Philippines do not honour the membership benefits.

3.Still promoting membership on the basis of domestic excess baggagee benefits that do not exist.

4.Please provide details of domestic routes that DO provide excess baggage benefits.

Josh, I am sorry that we are getting off on the wrong foot here.

Hopefully our awesome diving here in the Philippines really made up for the inconvenience. .

Fair enough. Your implication that I was mistaken or careless (or both) kinda rubbed me the wrong way I suppose.

And yes, the diving in Philippines more than made up for the inconvenience.

We are already booked into manila next month, and debating to stay there (Anilio/PG/Subic) or head to cebu/Malap. My friend has contacted PAL to confirm that Manila-Cebu flights are PAL, which they have said are, but I will ensure I have extra peso - just in case.

Which ever way, we will get there, and we will have superb diving, which is the whole point I suppose.

....and there ya have it....the worst day diving (or getting to the diving) is better than any good day at work!
