Attention Palm Beach County and Blue Heron Bridge Divers!

It has come to our attention that a large amount of trash (including plastic sheeting, cans, bottles, and plastic cups) was dumped near the small bridge at Phil Foster Park between the north boat ramp and the south dock. Since Pura Vida Divers adopted Phil Foster Park, The Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department have contacted us to put together a dive team to remove the debris. In turn we are asking any and all divers, snorkelers, surfers, and beach goers to lend a hand on
Saturday, November 15th at 1:00pm to help clean up Phil Foster Park.

All divers need to confirm participation before the day of the event and will be required to bring their diver certification card, a dive flag float, and a timing device as well as sign an Underwater Liability Release Form. All non-divers participating in the Emergency Phil Foster Park Cleanup will be required to sign a liability release at the registration table.

To thank everyone for participating, everyone who turns in a completed data card will have their trash weighed for a chance to win a free boat pass for a 2-tank dive trip aboard Sirena, or a half day surfboard or paddle board rental from Pura Vida. The individual who collects the most trash (by weight) will be the winner and may choose their prize.

Itinerary for the day:

1:00pm: Meet at the picnic tables near the playground for an underwater/beach cleanup orientation. During the cleanup orientation, you will discuss habitat preservation, what trash to remove, how to remove it, what to leave behind, inspection of trash for living creatures before and after removal, what areas are out-of-bounds, etc. Pura Vida Divers will provide cleanup materials and hand out goodie bags to those who attend while supplies last. Supplies are limited, so be sure to get there early.

2:26pm High Tide: Divers who attend the underwater/beach clean up orientation and return their collection bag filled with trash, will receive a voucher for a free air tank rental or air fill from Pura Vida Divers.

3:30pm: Please bring your collected trash and completed data cards back to the picnic tables. Everyone who turns in a completed data card will have their trash weighed for a chance to win a free boat pass for a 2-tank dive trip aboard Sirena, or a half day surfboard or paddle board rental. The individual who collects the most trash (by weight) will be our winner!

4:30pm: All participants are invited back to our shop for our annual Ocean Thanksgiving Party and Feast!! So be sure to stop by after the cleanup for some delicious food and great company.

An EMERGENCY??? and you are gonna take care of it in a week and a day? Is this a typo? Wouldn't the very fast tidal currents blow all the material around in the next week??

Good point DD, you should go clean up the trash for them tomorrow morning first thing. Then next weekend you can go to the party.

Aren't they sponsoring a night dive there tonight??? It is very confusing,

We have divers at the Blue Heron Bridge daily. The small loose pieces that can be carried off by the current have been cleaned up already. The Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department have asked us to conduct a large group effort to remove the larger items. Thus we set up a park cleanup to get more people involved. Most people were unable to help out on such short notice, so set the general cleanup to be in a week's time. This thread was created to get the word out, that Phil Foster Park needs help. Sorry for any confusion. This isn't one of our quarterly cleanups, and the park could use all of our help. We hope to see you all there next Saturday.

Sounds like a "big Spring cleaning & scrub" party instead of a quick swipe with a Swiffer.
Glad to see interest in keeping one if my favorite dive sites.

Please share pictures of the event & winners.
:)

With your help, the boat ramp and docks at Phil Foster Park are now debris free! We collected over 70lbs of debris underwater and 46lbs of trash and recycling from the rocks that line the bank for a combined total of 116.2lbs of trash and recycling.

Some of the more interesting items recovered include: A paper shredder, a shovel, a pillow, a bra, 2 pair of jeans, sheets of plastic, and a nearly complete set of Dominos.

Our next cleanupwill be the Great American Cleanup in April 2015. We hope to see you all there!

We are happy to report that no creature was harmed or killed during this cleanup. All debris coming out of the water was checked multiple times for life. Only freshly deposited trash (free of life) was removed. Anything with growth was left as it has already become part of the marine environment.1016865_10152755170326760_8816926825126262191_n.jpg

The winner of the FREE boat pass aboard Sirena went to the Molinari family. They collected over 70lbs of trash and recycling on Saturday. Thank you very much for all of your hard work to make Phil Foster Park a cleaner and safer place to dive and play.
