Great report. Makes me want to go back.

Tides.

I was there twice in one year, but at different times of the lunar cycle. The tides were much stronger on the second trip and effect on vis was remarkable. The Aggressor captain made a few unscheduled boat moves a few times because the tides were pulling particles down from the inner atoll and over the wall. One dive would have 40 foot vis, then the next dive site over you could see forever.

But hey, when you normally dive in a dry suit and 10-30 foot vis, any dive in Belize is a great dive.

Ah ha. Makes sense. Thanks for the knowledge.

Hey Brian. I agree with everything you said. Having been on a number of liveaboard I can say this boat was the most roomy and well laid out. I haven't had a chance to go through my photos or edit videos, but will do do soon. Russ

Absolutely. Like people say, once you go liveaboard it hard to go back to a land based vacation. For someone like myself, living up north and really getting only two weeks for vacation, I need to maximize my dives. I get one chance a year to go "all out" and dive, dive, dive so this is the way to go.

Brian I am in complete and utter agreement with what you said above. I live in Hawaii but have been studying and working hard and with a family (wife and stepdaughter) I don't get near the chances to dive that I'd like. PLUS, now that I'm spoiled on liveaboards the local diving where I live (Honolulu) is good but the experience is no where near what I saw on my dive trips. I'm very similar to you, except I can dive sporadically throughout the year (maybe 15 dives throughout the year - usually boat dives) but then I'll do that one liveaboard and the dive number is amp'd back up.

Also, I'm usually paying off the credit card because I have a dive trip on the books - that's another reason I probably don't dive as much. I always want the card totally paid off by my departure date - that way I know I'm free and clear and not paying it off after the trip is done and all the fun is long gone.

I just get so much more out of liveaboard trips, I can't think of a better way to go. To me these tropical destinations that party goers go to offer alot in the way of activities but you won't see me there. Put me on a liveaboard, not a resort and DEFINITELY not a cruise ship. Take care!

Brian,
thanks for the great read, the best trip report i have read on any destination in a long time. I am just pleased that it was about Sun Dancer!
Go ahead and post photos I took, I am glad you like them!
Hope to see you back here sometime and see you underwater again sometime!
