Diver Magazine in Canada printed a news story I wrote about Peter Hughes selling his Dancer Fleet to the new owner of the Aggressor Fleet. Happened two years ago, but, news has been slow coming out. Diver not available in US stores, nor is the story on the magazine website. However, I have posted the story for people interested in the live aboard industry. Wow I first thought it got sold again.

Have to wonder how many ships does each company actually own versus have a contract with to be called part of the fleet?

I thought it sold again also. so many liveboards for sale now days, you never know...


I believe that a lot of them are "independently owned franchises" of the Hughes or Aggressor brand. (of course they have some requirements.... to meet, in theory).

Hmm, I just wonder if, given the state of the diving industry these days, Mr Brown regrets selling his 60 Taco Bell franchises.............

Seems odd that the same person would buy fleets that operate in the same areas. You've got one competing with the other. If I was the franchise owner, I'd be alittle upset. I believe that each company had only one boat and the rest were franchises. Peter had the Tobago boat and Wayne had the Cayman boat.

well that's not called "competing" anymore... it's called "monopolizing".

as for the boat owners... they are run under seperate names but both get their clients from a "central booking" reservations system. so... depending on how you look at it, if your boat wasn't full and the other was, a call to the booking agent could say "well I can get you on our other boat there that week?" and actually get the boat more bookings.

This is a multi million dollar operation. ..... I'm sure they bought it with that (above) in mind.
