Hi Guys

I will be in Perth March 4-6 and was wondering about diving there. It will be my first time in Oz and hate to miss out. Will be there for 2 weeks but lots of traveling during the week days.

Any suggestions?

Mant thanks!

Robert

Oh, i could also spend that weekend in Brisbane as i have to be there Monday anyhow. I'm up for suggestions...

Dolphin Dive runs day trips (2 tanks) on the weekends out to Rottnest Island from Fremantle if you decide on Perth. Other options involve hiring gear and driving yourself to one of the shore dives. Robb's Jetty or the Rockingham Wreck Trail are alright :)

Leave someone else to comment on the diving in Brisbane.

There are basically 2 areas to dive in perth Marmion marine park, just off the Northern Beaches, and Rottnest Island 20km West of Perth. All operators dive in these areas. Here is a list of Websites that you can check and decide which dives to do. There doesn't seem to be much on Friday, but there are local shore entry sites that someone who knows the area could take you to.

In no particular order, all good some share the same boat. Will have to hear from Brissy, as I'm not sure what is available there on the weekend, but I'm sure it would be good.
Enjoy

Actually marmion marine park though being a really rich and diverse area is rather shallow in parts and not very protected. Depths are also mainly shallow - to 6-7m and some shore entrys can be tricky. In the southern region around Rockingham, you will have shore diving to 18m in the much dived but dubiously named wreck trail. its more a 'mini' wreck chain which has some really interesting critters and the easiest shore dive entry by far. Unfortunately it is populated by schools and visibility can be challenged. Still my favourite shore dive on a good day.

Robbs Jetty and Ammo jetty is good for macro but again affected by low visibility. I had a really good dive down at BHP jetty once- with no crowds or fishos.

There also used to be interesting diving around Fremantle's North and South Mole. Unfortunately the dredging has really affected the diving there plus the entrys are tricky down from rocks. Rottnest would be a good bet for the best diving if the weathers good. Or you can book on some ops that head out to the 3 mile reef area.

Hi Guys. Thanks for all the input. I ended up diving Perth Dive Academy out of Fremantle and went to Rottnest Island. The DM there was Nick and he ran a great ship. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience there and met some really nice people and way superior divers than myself.

Pleased you enjoyed it.

When did you go? And how was your experience of the sites (which ones)? We have been getting some untypical warmer waters (25-26C )as a result of la nina and warmer water fish have appeared in local waters. Also been a lot of particles in the water (lower vis) and more jellyfish.. Not sure whether true or not but have heard of whale shark sighting off rotto

Was there March 5th. I had all rental gear and comp didn't pick up temp but was comfy in a 5/3.
I did see a few jellyfish that seemed ~6-8cm square. Water was certainly full of particles but wasn't sure if normal or because of a bit of windy day. I did hear rumor of the whale shark but didn't see one. We did two parts of Roe Reef.
