Have you ever used your Nautilus Lifeline or other beacon in a real scenario or seen one used? How effective did you find it?

I've used my Lifeline as a 'radio' only, and found it worked well. Happily, I've never needed to use it for rescue.

The new Lifeline no longer has the radio. It has DSC and AIS. I have tested with my boat, but not to ascertain the distance it will work over.

I heard that there was a new Lifeline, but hadn't looked at it at all. Obviously two very different products.

So I it wasn't a life or death situation, but my buddy and I surfaced some 500 yards from the boat on a west palm drift dive. The boat was east of us and the sun was at our backs making my 3ft smb tough to see. Surprise 4ft swells didn't help the situation.

We chilled out for some 10mins and the boat made no indication of being aware that we had surfaced, so I busted out the Nautilus and called them up. Sure enough, they had no idea we were topside. We directed them on where to look and after a few mins of searching they found us and picked us up.

10/10 experience!

I have. Here's my story: Scary ending to a great night dive

The radio was not effective for reaching the boat. It wasn't because the radio didn't work but because the boat wasn't listening to their radio. I never used the "distress" feature.
