Hello. I've found the site to get your lobster permit. But can't find anything on crabs. I says check with local laws, but can't find a single thing.
Also do you need a permit for spearfishing. Can't find info on that either. Last thing can you spearfish on Scuba or just freediving. Now for all those people who are going to say spearfishing on scuba is like shooting fish in a barrel...i'm JUST ASKING!

First off... I've moved the post to the New England Lobstah Divahs forum, just because I think you might get a better response from there. I can move it back if you'd prefer.

Lobster licenses will cover crabs as well. You can take anything but green crabs. Crab season is closed January 1st through April 30th. Blue crabs have a size limit of 4 1/8", sized "across the shell from tip to tip of the posterior-most, longest spines along the lateral margins of the carapace. "

you don't need a license for shellfish or spearfishing, but you must obey the laws. You have to be very careful with spearfishing, because it's not like hook fishing... once you spear 'em, you've got 'em... and you can't swim up and measure them first.

I would recommend you read over the Massachusetts Diver Information Document

Edited to correct brain-fart with crab season dates. Thanks Rick, I'll try to not make serious posts after a night o' drinking!

Spectre That 1/1 to 4/30 is when the crab season is closed.
You can take crabs the whole year except then!

And I was thinking they timed the season so the water would be too cold for anyone to consider diving for them!

Scuba-sass :-)

PS - Spectre - Congrats on the Regulator status! :)

Hmm it must be nice to be able to go back and edit :-)
You could at least take my posts out so I dont look like a dummy
:stupid: hehe
Rick L

I didn't notice your edit memo :-)
No posting after drinking damn that would cut my posts in half:boozer: Rick L

I was going to post a reply to state that I had the brain fart, but I lost track of what I was doing. BTW: You can edit your own posts as well :)

No... you're not an idiot... you get all the credit for the virtual dope slap!

Oh... and thanks scuba-sass! [And since you didn't make it out saturday... happy belated birthday!]

No posting after drinking damn that would cut my posts in half

Yea... I don't think I can make that promise either! :coke:

See I told you I was a dummy!! I didn't even notice that

With a follow up to the MA regs... how about CT? Crabs, bugs, oysters etc?

Anyone have any good spots - especially for oysters?

Thanks!!!

Baroo once bubbled...

I'm not from CT, so I've not looked too deeply, but I think what you're looking for is

Marine Fisheries Information Circular

Personal Use lobster license is $50 and covers diving and up to 10 lobster pots. Crabbing is a little confusing, so i'll leave it to you to figure out and report back!
