Hi all...

I am planning to take an AOW course in Perhentian or Redang some time in the next couple of months. I was wondering if anyone who has been there might have some recommendations on dive operators.

I have been to the PADI website and found a number of PADI 'registered' operators in Perhentian and Redang. Would anyone have any personal experience to share?

Thanks a bunch.
Julian

I did my DMT at Watercolours on Perhentian Besar and had a great 6 weeks there. The staff are very friendly, knowledgable and experienced.

I am spending a few days on Redang at the end of this month. I'm also looking for advice regarding dive centres on Redang. Is there anyone you recommend? I am staying at Coral Redang. Is it possible to just check out the dive centres when I arrive on the island? Does anyone know how many dive centres can be reached by walking from Coral Redang?

Got my certification at Watercolours, Perhentian Besar as well in spring 2002. Instructor was a German guy by the name Christian Baum who at the time also run the dive operation at Watercolours (its a small Swiss owned resort - funky little huts on the beach, really nice and quite affordable (think USD 25 per night)).

Chris is a nice guy and teaches with German "grundigkeit" - he will teach you well.

The dive team at Watercolours was really nice - funky bunch of European, US and Korean divemasters. We had a great time there - and diving is nice too.

And you can snorkel with the blacktips in the front of the resort in the evening....

I don't know about dive instruction but I was treated well at Coral Redang. The staff was professional and they have a great boat. I was there during high season but still managed several dives where I was the only nonstaff member on board.

Thanks for that jiveturkey. I'll check out coral redang when I get there. I hope they aren't too busy and I can just jump on a boat. Any recommendations for dive sites on redang? I'm only there for 4 days.

For Perhentian Isle, I recommend Coral Sky Divers at small isle. I am very impressed with their professionalism. Had introduced a couple of frens to learn with them, feedback had been positive.
For Redang Isle, frens had recommend The Divers Den..
Have fun :)
