hahaha... more to the "point"

My son is a Marine and believe me If I thought for one minute that manipulating a sharks behavior could be completely controlled and it meant saving just one of our guys lives, then it would be worth it! However; Look whats happening with the Orca's whose behavior is being modified. They in a few cases and I'm sure a bunch we don't know about are trying to destroy their handlers. How about the circus elephants that go on rampages? Even better yet, can anyone looking to be a part of this phase of the project say "Here Kitty Kitty"? I bet some boys in Vegas can share some first hand knowledge about something they created going terrible wrong!!!! What really concerns me is what would the protocol be for introducing an "Invasive Species" to say the least, into a new eco system? We can't control the animals we have lived with for a very long time. That's why they are called "Wild". When you take a look at the Federal Marine Mammal Registry that tracks whales, dolphins, seals and walruses in captivity it is heartbreaking that the mortality rates are so high! I know these are mammals, but sharks have been called the perfect predator, do we really wan't an unmonitored agency to have carte blanche' with these magnificant creatures? I know shark research is showing some very promising medical signifigance. I guess I just feel that beyond a controlled enviroment, captive facility, we are playing Russian Roulette! You all just saw what I think about captive facilities for any creature capable of living where they were born. I believe we need to always be looking for progress but at what cost and who is ultimately paying the price. This just appears to be another disaster and blunder looking for a place to be released! Some times, some things just need to be left alone! Just because we can doesn't always mean we should!!!! Thanks.

Carte blanche? This is just not something to worry about. This is a research grant. They give these things out to university idiots all the time (my roommates took a turn in college and, believe me, they were offering very little). Like hot cakes.

In our lifetime some grad students will convince the federal government to give them a grant for studying the ability of hamsters to control drones.

This money is more a product of the government needing to give it to someone before the next budget year than it is recognition of real potential.

Did anyone bother to notice that the only two people quoted in the article were the nutty professor and a “blogger.” How serious can a grant be if the second-in-line quote is from a “blogger?” No one from the government had anything to say about this.

Now, can we please get back to worrying about aliens abusing Midwestern cattle? Please?

This is obviously a case of mis- directed information. They want you to believe the research is related to the war against terrorism but the real purpose to develop a more lethal republican senate.

Does this mean that politicians will start bumping each other off? Sounds like a blessing in disguise... ;)
