Peace River, Fl Dive

I always wanted to try diving the Peace River for fossils. Is anyone interested in planning a trip or can give any recommedations/places to go?

Zolfo springs , Arcadia , by the Peace river campground. anywhere along that stretch.

Thanks - Is this for scuba or just snorkeling - any safety tips?

Some spots are a little over a foot to 7'-8' and scuba gives you more b-time =more fossils ....sometimes . A canoe is real handy on this river ans sois a shovel and a screen. The vis can go from 6' to 6" in a heart beat and there are large meat eating reptiles to be wary of. (remember the treasure is always guarded ).If you see one just keep moving .You'll need a nice collecting bag for the big items and an old peanut butter jar with tiny holes drilled in it for the small ones .Drill two larger holes in the cap and the jar and run 6" of 025" line through the holes and tie a knot on the inside of each end. This will keep you from loosing the cap and will provide a line to so you can tie a clip clip so you can hang it on you B/C.Good luck. Look in depressions and cracks by fanning the bottom with your hand the current will move the silt on An old knife or a garden claw(for the lack of a better name )is real handy .

The water is getting warmer so the alligators get a little more energized. Snakes shouldn't be any problem though. Just don't watch Lonesome Dove before you go.

Alligator mating season is coming up shortly, I believe it runs May-August. I'm not sure I'd be in the river this time of year unless I have to. Also, the river runs higher this time of year, and the runoff means more tannic acid and less visibility. The best time to dive the river is in winter.
