Since no one has commented, I will: Great video! Very nice viz for right off the beach. Was this in Pensacola Beach? I thought these rock "discs" were on pilings far enough off the bottom so they would not be covered by sand. From what I see in your video, the rock discs are close to the bottom. Does this mean than sand has already filled in most of the pilings? A little more sand deposition from a tropical storm and the discs will be covered; not good.

By the way, I just came across some photos of a similar reef-making project in Navarre Beach:

This project has been planned for years, and it is finally happening.

Yay! More structure. Yes the portofino "trees" are close to the sand but they are not more or less covered compared to last year after they were installed. We didn't have a very active tropics season come through here last year either. However, if we do have another active year like we did when Ivan hit they probably will get some pretty good coverage. A couple are touching the sand so those could get completely covered in the coming years. Great video! Nice find on the starfish.

Thanks for the response...:D

This is Pensacola Beach. Its parking lot "H", approx 1.5 miles east of Portofino. This was my second dive at this reef, my first was June 11,2011, approx. 1 year ago and upon descending on the reef my first thought was that the sand is starting to fill in around the pilings, the disks seemed closer to the bottom than I remember. I have no pics to compare, just going off my memory, which is dangerous! The elevation of the top of the pilings vary a little, I would say they are approx. 5 ft or so off the bottom.
I heard the Navarre project was under way...won't be long till we have another reef in the area... can't wait!
