hyaku once bubbled...
Forgive my ignorance but how do you guys manage to remove so much blue out of your images. Some of the shots are so clear.

Any links you can give to help me?

Regards hyaku

Alot of the blue is removed in posr processing with various software programs. Photoshop7, Photoshop Elements and Paint Shop Pro seem to be the three most popular. Of course we try first not to have the blue to start with! Getting close to your subject, using a strobe will help. Keep in mind that no strobe or flash will reach past 3-4 ft, not enough to do you much good anyway.

PS....I split this off into it's own thread so you's get more response.

Dee is absolutely right. You have to get close. I rarely shoot more than 1 meter away from a subject. The trick is also to balance your flash with the ambient background. I do like blue water in my photos, but my subject shouldn't be blue! Using the right technique and equipment is the best way to avoid color corrections.

I would recommend reading Jack and Sue Drahfahl's book called Digital Imaging for the Underwater Photographer. They go over these techniques. You also learn about some of the plug-in programs available for photoshop. One of them does a great job removing backscatter.

Thanks all for your help/links

Im having a go but without much success.

Probably the pics I am working on are beyond saving. The one below and a few more like it were what I was hoping to clean up

My main interest is in macro shots. All attempts at using a flash up to now over expose things with exception to night dives. Although I have made a very effective diffusor with a piece of thick paper. Some time the simplest things work!

Friends using the same camera (Sony Cybershot) are not having as much success as me. I suppose I should invest in a strobe and do as another friend does who uses SLR and invariably bounces the light of things to get amazing results.
