hi, im thinking of making a trip down to the panhandle area this week and was wondering if anyone had any dive locations they could suggest. I was thinking of trying to do some shore diving to save some money but also would like to do one or two charters. I don't have a particular area in mind to go yet so I am open to any suggestions. also if any of you are located there and willing to buddy up for a dive or two that would be great! thanks in advance for any help.

Shore: Destin Thumb Jetty (bit of a walk, but an old man can do it-sand, watch your reg.) Dive flag.
Destin Bridge (W. side free parking-walk to your right to a point and dive back to bridge) Sign: flag required.
St. Andrews Jetty-- Panama City Beach--dive Gulf side (45' at jetty end) or channel (70')-best dive I've done on Gulf. State Park (fee) Dive flag. Longer walk to gulf side than channel side.
Perdido Pass, Orange Beach, AL (just over FL line).
Whiskey Wreck--Gulf Shores, AL (I haven't done this one)
Fort Pickens Park, W. of Pensacola Beach. $8 parking fee (2012). Flag required--no solo diving (I have).

These are all tide dependent with wicked currents unless diving at slack tide.

Numerous shallow/boring "Bay" or "Sound" side dives -Destin, Okaloosa I., Navarre, Pensacola Beach and some Gulf
side pier or straight shore dives--let me know if you're interested in that sort of thing--Go anytime, not really tide
dependent.

Charters:

Destin: Emerald Coast Scuba--May go out once or so in March, start up for real April.
ScubaTech--have gone out more in March
Panama City (Beach): Dive Locker: Will go all winter when enough divers, and weather of course.
Others in PC/PCB I know nothing about but hear some are good.

Pensacola (West of the city):
Niuhi Divers: Go a little more frequently in winter. No head on board. Spearos welcome. Affiliated with
LDS "Dive Pros" in P'cola on US 98.

I live in PC if you come for charters, panama city dive charters or divers den, I wasn't at all impressed with Dive locker. But The Better Bottom Time charters boat is great also but not cheap. The jetties are the best for cheap diving. lots to see and is usually good most of the time.

great! thanks for all the info. it sounds like I have a few options for some decent shore diving.
