Any feedback on Panama City as a dive site for a newbie. Local scuba operation has a group going in August.

Thanks,

John

Tandoorii,

Panama City is an EXCELLENT location for a new diver.

There are numerous natural and artificial reefs, to include wrecks, to dive on with any of the dive boat operations in Panama City. These dives are anywhere from 40' to 110'.

A new diver can also explore the jetties at St. Andrews State Park, which is at the far east end of Panama City beach. The depths there max out at about 50'. There are all sorts of wonderful fish to see. If you're lucky, you may even spy a shy little octopus peeking out from the boulders in the jetty. Just be very, very aware of the current outside of the jetties in the channel.

Safe dives . . .
. . . Safer ascents

Welcome to ScubaBoard Tandoorii

I second mike's suggestion in buying DeLoach's book and all of Kraken's post too. If you end up diving the jetties in Panama City, dive during high slack tide for best possible visibility and the least amount of current. You can check tides at www.saltwatertides.com
