Hello Divers,

I am thinking about going to Palau and dive on The Agrressor in 2010.
I can go during next winter ( Feb. or Mar. ), or during the fall of 2010 ( Sept. or Oct. ). Which is the better time of year to go to Palau?
Also I would like to stay on Palau for a couple of days, can you guys suggest a good place to stay?

Tanks a lot, Mike

I don't know the wet/dry season in Palau. I did the Agressor in late November/early December and the weather was fine. I would email the Agressor and ask them their opinion of what is the prime time to visit.

We did one day/night at the Palau Pacific Resort. It was very nice and may tend to be a bit on the pricey side. Since it was part of a diving package, I can't tell you how much it cost by itself.

But trust me, you're going to love Palau.

In general, be aware of the South Pacific Cyclone Season (see also NOAA/NWS Guam), and try not to visit during the Xmas/New Years' or any Japanese Holiday (too many crowding the dive sites). . .

I had a nice time staying at the West Plaza Hotel Desekel location, close to all the eateries in town and right next to the Bank of Guam/ATM. . .

I will check on the cyclone thing. Thanks a lot, I would hate to go all the way from New York and hit really bad weather.

Kev,

Was there a particular dive operator you would recommend? Your hotel pick looks good. No need for a LA I gather. This will make things easy if my non diving significant other goes.

The best weather in Palau is from mid Feb thru May.....starting in July thru Sept you are really taking a chance of not even getting out of the Harbor to dive. October thru December is 50/50, I know people who have gone during Thanksgiving and they could not get out to the Blue Corner and others who went at that time and had one of the best trips ever.

I stay at the West Plaza Malakal and dive with Sams.

Koror dive ops big three are:
Neco Marine - Luxury diving in Palau Micronesia
Welcome to Fish 'n Fins - Scuba Diving in Palau
Sam's Tours: Palau Diving Micronesia, Island Hopping and dive travels

It's a beautiful but long boat ride from Koror through the Rock Islands to the dive sites and back --but in rough weather & seas it can be a wet, cold and punishing ride through the waves & swells.

The other land-based option that can get you out to the dive sites almost as quickly as a liveaboard, is staying on Peleliu Island:
MAML DIVERS PALAU
Diving / Dolphin Bay Resort & Peleliu Divers in Palau
