Hello,

I read your very impressive and enthusiast reports about Palau and I plan our trip ( about February or march 09).
As we are not interested neither in wrecks nor in LOB , we will stay in Palau. It seems the best sites are in south archipelago and precisely in Peleliu area ( ? ).

So I hesitate:

1- Peleliu / 4 days and Palau / 5 or Palau 9 days ( but I notice than some of you , among the most competent stay every time only at Palau). Is there a place in Peleliu that you support ?

2- Sam’s and Keith at Dive Palau ?

3- Pacific Palau Resort or West Plaza Malakal ?

Thanks you for helping me to make up my mind and good dives.

Not many people stay on Peleliu. Most only go there for island tour & diving. There are several great sites there if the current is on. the express, pocket, cut all have good reputation but it is all dependant on the current. When i did a day at Peleliu there was very little current but some uncomfortable surface swell. Peleliu is where the Philippine sea meets the Pacific so conditions can be very tricky. I heard many stories about diving there that scared me!!!
There is one small dive resort on Peleliu, you can search this forum for more info. I would expect it to be quite basic. I would suggest you stay Koror.
I dove with sams after my liveaboard. would happily go back there. Sams is in a very nice location (5 mins walk to West Plaza Malakal )and the set up /facilities are very good.
I stayed in the WP Malakal. It was fine for my needs. Large clean rooms. Its close to Sams and a few nice places to eat /drink/markets. (only 1 tv channel in english, BBC, a few asian channels and thats all) I have been told the Pan Pacific is great but it is expensive $250+ a night. I think i paid about $70 a night at WPM.

We stayed at the Palau Pacific before and after a liveaboard a couple years ago, it was nice. Enjoyed the beach and grounds. Rooms weren't all that special for the price but I read awhile back they were updating them, so maybe that is done by now.

I highly recommend kayaking in the Rock Islands with Sam's.

(Just so there's no confusion, Peleliu is an Island/state in the Republic of Palau. Koror is the Island/State/Town where most people stay in Palau.)

1. Yes, stay in Koror, not Peleliu.
2. Sam's Tours and Kieth Santilliano are both great choices.
3. PPR (Palau Pacific Resort) or PRR (Palau Royal Resort) are both nice but expensive. Of course, Palau uses U.S. Dollars, and it looks like your on the Euro, so now may be a good time for you at any rate. Otherwise, WP Malakal and the Waterfront villa are both good, lower cost options. If you have kids, you might want to consider the Airai Hotel, because it has a little water park behind it.

Thank you ,

So , I probably will stay in Palau and look for 3tanks-boatride to Peleliu (once or twice ).
From France , a way to go to Palau is via Manille (Phils) . My schedule will include a trip to Donsol ( hoped Whale - sharks). So it must be about March.
Is there a period of "somewhere-in-the-world" holidays I'd rather to avoid by this month ?
How long before must I book Hotel and dive-club ?

Thank you for so quick answer.

Good night Tomeck !

( I hope you saw french TV ( planet thalassa ) this evening , there were a doc on your loved Antarctica).

Yes, I get answers that confirm your own advices on french forum.

As there are such experienced "Palau divers" on scubaboard and so good posts about dives in , I try my so poor english to overlap informations .

I am on my way to finalize this project .

Many thanks to all of you for sharing knowledge and feelings.

March is a great time to come to Palau.

I don't know about booking a hotel, I guess it depends on where you want to stay.

Your welcome, and if you have any more questions I'm happy to help.
