OK, so it took some arm twisting, but I've finally convinced my fiancée that this tropical paradise would be perfect for our honeymoon! She is fully aware that it is a bit of a diving Mecca (non-diver herself), and I have swore a vow that I'll dive only a day or possibly two during our weeklong stay.

So here's my question - Topside activities are numerous, and I'll admit, we're going to be doing all the tourist things this time around. We'll kayak, snorkel, check out some WWII relics, we'll do the spa, jump in the jellyfish lake, etc. & blah blah blah ...

But - what would locals or guests who have frequented Palau suggest as an outlandishly romantic experience? I'm looking for 'sick to your stomach' romantic notions / suggestions here, folks.

Valentine's Day will fall on our honeymoon stay there, and this will likely be the one and only time that we travel there as a couple (I'll undoubtedly return for reasons obvious to anyone who frequents this website ...)

So - any ideas?

Congrats! No chance of getting her certified? I faced the same dilemma 23 years ago. We decided on Grand Cayman and, most importantly, I convinced my fiancé to take lessons beforehand. She completed OW checkout dives in Cayman during our honeymoon and has been my dive buddy since. We're headed to Palau next month for a week on the Aggressor. I cant even imagine going to Palau & only diving 1 or 2 days. Diving isn't for everyone but you don't know until you try.

I hope you are planning on staying at Palau Pacific Resort! What a GORGEOUS resort and seems to me to be perfect for a honeymoon!!!!!!!! Congrats and have fun!

@ Jake and Kev
PPR was our first choice for accommodations, but it didn't work out. We have viewed their facilities and will likely use their spa and beach, but we are going to stay at the Plantation.

This will likely never happen. She is Taiwanese, so swimming and watersports/recreation are truly new developments within her culture. It is only now that the majority of children are learning to swim at a young age. She is not a swimmer herself, and feels very uncomfortable in or around water. We snorkel together (her in lifejacket) when we travel.

Haha at first I wasn't allowed to dive at all on the honeymoon! I'll take my day or two and be grateful, but there is hope in knowing I live only 3 or 4 hours away. Palau will in time become a dive trip I do every few years.

Thanks for your responses
:)

I just wanted to extend my congratulations!!!! What a great adventure!!! Good luck and enjoy the Rock Islands!!!

Cheers,
Roger

Well, if it was me I'd book three dives every day. Then I'd let my wife fetch beers and haul my gear to and from the boat.

But I'm a hopeless romantic.

Another idea: get one of the dive-ops (SamsTours or Fish n' Fins) to drop both of you off overnight on your own secluded beach on one of the Rock Islands.

Make sure it's on a night during the work week --the Palauans like to motor boat out on the weekends, bringing their generators & boom boxes and party/camp-out all night on the islands. . .

You will love the beach at PPR! Another tip.. if you decide to stay for dinner skip the restaurant and just eat at the poolside bar! EXCELLENT food and drinks for a fraction of the price! Have a great honeymoon!
