Palau, Chuuk, and where else?

Singapore would be considerably far out of your way, and I think it would require at least a double connection. The logical stopover points are Guam, Honolulu, or Tokyo. Of those three, I would visit Tokyo, no question. In fact, I am doing exactly that -- my third visit to Tokyo -- on my way back from Chuuk in May.
 
If you are up for taking the island hoper out of Honolulu you could stop in Pohnpei which is just before Chuuk. Good a a week of relaxation. That is what we did before hoping over to Chuuk. The diving is nice but so are the walk abouts to Nan Madol and WWII sites.
