Palau & beach

Hi there,

I was wondering what does Palau (main island) have to offer in terms of beaches. This is rather important since I'll be with non-divers. I understand that the PPR has a beach, and the Malakal Central Hotel and Palau Royal Resort are also listed as having a beach (or at least artificial ones). Does anyone have any recommendations, insights, or experiences they can share concerning this or about the above hotels in general? Thanks!

PPR does have a nice beach, with great snorkeling if they like that. They could kayak from there as well. A few interesting things to explore on the grounds. Generally a good place to hang out. I stayed there for 2 days before a liveaboard and would have enjoyed a few more.

The main island of Koror has no natural beaches to speak of. PPR has a very beautiful artificial beach with great snorkeling. If you are with non-divers, there are many kayak tours, water fall tours, snorkeling trips to be taken.

You may want to consider Caroline's -- it's about a 5 minute walk to PPR and guests have use of PPR's facilities, last I heard. If money is no issue, PPR is the way to go. I'm not aware of any nice beaches in the Malakal area, just mangroves and mudflats.

i agree with marpacifica. the private beach of PPR is pretty, and its dive shop, Sprash Dive Center, can provide an excellent mac diving guide. i stayed at Carolines Resort last month and so can recommend that place, too. even if you afford to stay at PPR, Carolines is also worth while to consider. Zenie the manager is a very pleasant Filipina lady.

other recommendations i have are (1) Malakal Central Hotel Beach, which is shallow with the depth of only -5m, and (2) Antelope Coral Garden in front of Palau Marine Club, which is deeper but still -10m. Both exist in Malakal and are known for mac diving. if you want to see mandarin fish, the latter is particularly recommendable.

i went to palau at the end of january and it was AWESOME. i was working in korea at the time and went with an LDS that owns a shopin palau.

check to see if you can find an LDS that offers tours. the LDS (www.seaworld-palau.co.kr but it's all in korean) offers a "rock island tour" for $100 which includes trips to jellyfish lake, the zero fighter, milky way, clam city, and a nice bbq on one of the small beaches. snorkeling is available at all stops and it was really nice.

Stayed at ppr for 3 days after ocean hunter liveaboard. Stayed at West Plaza by the Sea on night before getting on boat. If you can aford it, ppr is the way to go. Great hotel with friendly staff and well maintained. Beach was nice, the snorkling there at the beach is great. Take a land tour if you can, we took one with Fish n Fins, the dive shop associated with ocean hunter and really loved it. Ask for Clayton at Fish n Fins if he available. he is a divemaster on board the ocean hunter but is a native of Palau and conducts land tours when he is off the boat.

Your right about that and its no 5 min walk. It took us that long to get from the front desk to our bungalow.
