Most charters run about $70.00 for a two-tank charter. The shop we normally go with out of Panama City has a three-tank dive for $90. I figure going 21 miles out in the Gulf and back, with the cost of fuel what it is, $150 is not too aweful.

Sorry, Ron, I just logged on. I just returned from diving the Oriskany. Although we had ice on the deck of the boat this morning, it warmed up nicely. The temp at depth was bold and refreshing 60 degrees. This morning a five foot Manta Ray zoomed past us as we descended to the top of the island. We saw a large school of Amberjacks, several 10-20lb groupers and a school of snappers. The wreck's really coming to life, so I'm sure you're going to enjoy your trip.

If you want to dive the Oriskany, I strongly recommend the Y-Knot of Blue Water Adventures. I spend most of my time on the boat as the resident DM. If you're stayin in Gulf Shores, I recommend the guys at Down Under.

Check out my website to make your trip planning a little easier. And of course, feel free to PM me if I can be of any help whatsoever regardless if you choose to go with me or not. I'm always happy to help.

Scuba-Jay:
LoL Ron i figure maybe, just maybe, the Oriskany DiveMaster might just recommend the Oriskany Divemaster for a trip to the Oriskany...just a guess tho...

Thanks for the props, Scuba Jay. You're exactly right. Even with all the new kids getting their freshly printed DM tickets, after 20 years of diving these waters, I still feel comfortable recommending my skills and experience as a Divemaster.

Thanks, Heather.

Thanks for getting back with me, though I must admit that Heather answered most of my questions. I dove about three years ago with Down Under in Orange Beach. They were pretty efficient, but we will probably stay in Pensacola when we come down. Though I live in Alabama, Pensacola is actually a little closer than Orange Beach. One of the members of my party is only OW certified so according to the information on Capt. Dave's website he would have to dive with a divemaster. I think he is a couple of dives short of having 20, but by the time we dive the Oriskany he should be okay. Thanks for the help and hopefully we will get to meet this summer.

Ron

$145 pp is the going rate for most of the boats going to Oriskany.
