I forgot how the PADI specialty certifications work...
Do the core dives (like night, wreck, navigation) for the Advanced Open Water count towards the five specialties required for Dive Master?

Padi elective and core dives used in the advanced open water only count for the advanced card!! You don't need speciality ratings if you are going to become a Padi Divemaster!!

If you wish to obtain Padi Master Scuba Diver Rating than you will require 5 seperate specialities and a card for each in order to apply for Master scuba diver.. I think it is a whole lot of money to obtian this type of card because each speciality requires a course and book fee!!!

Hope this helps you

This is incorrect. ANY of the dives done during Advanced/Adventures in Diving can be applied towards a Specialty.

Regarding Master Scuba Diver: "the Master Scuba Diver rating is the highest nonprofessional rating in the PADI System....To attain this rating,a diver must be a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and PADI Rescue Diver (or hold qualifying certifications from another organizations) with proof of 50 logged dives, and must holdcertifications in any five PADI Specialty courses." [PADI Instructor Manual, 2002].

DiveMaster is the first Pro level in PADI. Prerequisites include being a Rescue Diver, having 60 logged dives by the end of the course, and current (within past 2 yrs) CPR/1st aid. There are also numerous academic, watermanship, and other training requirements that are attained through the DM course.

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to email me.

Take care, eh?!
