Hi all,
Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I did a search and couldn't find it. I've decided that I would like to do my PADI OW referral dives all as shore dives, because I can get a little seasick on boats and just think it would be less stressful. I'd also like to do them in warmer, calmer waters. Any locations and companies anyone has had experience with, that is willing to do this? Thanks!

Why not try taking motion sickness pills? I still get sick on the boat and use them everytime I dive.

Thanks for your post leesa. I might end up doing that, but would still prefer to do the shore dives if possible.

Any suggestions on where anyone?

Well you don't have a location posted, but guessing you are on the east coast, I would suggest the Carribean. Bonaire is known for its shore diving and tranquil waters.

Check with a couple of dive ops.... email the instructor and ask them about shore dives for your referral. Most places will - if they have shore dives available. Like Otter said ... Bonaire is great for shore diving, and a great place to be once the certification is complete!

Good Luck!

Thanks everyone!

I am on the east coast, but love Hawaii so much I don't mind the trip. I will definitely check into Bonaire. Thanks again, I am so glad to find this board.

Bonaire would probably be the shore diving capitol of the world.

For Hawaii, try Aaron's Dive Shop on Oahu. I dived with them this past December. They're a PADI operation. Take real good care of you too. Didn't do any shore diving while in Hawaii.

Understand your problem but...ah, if you're not going on the boat for certification, where are you going to dive after certification?

Most of your good diving is going to be from a boat.

Perhaps investing a little time resolving your seasickness problem first would let you kill two birds with one stone. I've been on numerous boats without a hint of seasickness but I always take my Bonine. Usually you're too thrilled to dive to think of seasickness.

Then you can spend lots more money going anywhere you want!

If you want to shore dive in Hawaii - the big island probably has the most choices.

I would agree with the others about Bonaire.

It is an awesome shore dive location.

i would suggest Bonaire as well, though it might be harder to get there now
that Air Jamaica has stopped flying there.

there are so many shore dives there it isn't even funny
