Looking for the latest PADI Open Water book to begin reading before the 8/21 get-wet-and-hopefully-certified trip to Honduras. Amazon doesn't seem to have it. Our local library has a many years old version (I've seen it), and the book searches I know about have a variety of editions. The latest one I see is 1994 and the next newest is 1990.

Does anyone know what the latest OW book is? And where to get it?

You can buy it at your local dive shop.

...I'm used to buying all my books off the web. But what do you do if the shops locally are all SSI?
Terry

One of the handicaps of living in the hinterlands is a dearth of diveshops. There are two 20 miles away and a 3rd 40 miles. One shop said they were all SSI which apparently is another certifying organization.

I checked the PADI.org site, but they seemed to have CD's plus videos plus a lotta stuff I don't want to lug with me on the plane. From the sound of what people carry with them around here, I probalby won't get much sympathy, but it's a point of honor (or philosophical pov) not to carry more than I can fit under the seatback in front of me, around 25 lbs. I realize this may change if I buy more equipment (or *when*) and go on a dedicated underwater vacation. Usually, though, I've got more than enough interests to make that less likely for a bit.

Terry, if the PADI website is not helpful, call PADI directly at (800) 729-7234. Be aware that since they are in California, they are -3 EDT.

They should either be able to help you find a source for your Open Water book.

BTW, the Open Water manual usually is sold as part of a Crew Pack, which includes the other things you will need for your course, such as the dive tables, student folder, etc. There IS a listing for a crew pack in the products section of the online catalogue.

However, PADI generally does not sell directly to anyone but dive professionals, so you will probably be directed to a local dive shop. The good news is that there is also a link on the site to help you find a PADI shop in your area.

Good luck!
