I am interested in rebreathers.

I am a PADI MSDT and taught at Anthony's Key in Honduras and South Beach Divers in Miami Beach.

Trying to figure out if I want to go to the Meg or Optima. After talking to a sales guy at Fill Express I would say the Optima. The only downside is I would like to do some int'l travel. He said the cartridges seem to be hard to come by in places like Philippines and Indonesia.

Also just discovered the GUE guys and their DIR protocols. They seem pretty strict on their fundamentals and tech courses prior to rebreather training.

Any thoughts please send them my way

Regards,

Kiefer

Since GUE shuns the use of CCRs (for some reason best not brought up) you may not get the most unbiased opinions from that group. If CCR is in your future there are plenty of good instructors in your part of the world. Maybe try some different rigs, ask the instructors why they dive what they do and get squared away on the basic skills. Contrary to popular opinion on the internet you don't need to be DIR to be a good diver.

Kiefer....
Are you still down in South Beach....? Are you a regular on the wednesday night dives w/ RJ...? Can you make them...? I try to jump on at least every other week.

We have a fairly large group of local rebreather divers, Mostly meg's and optima's, one inspiration and one Classic KISS... we mostly hang out over on Rebreather World to coordinate dives... Send me a PM w/ your email address and I can introduce you to the locals, one of which is an Optima instructor who can do a 'intro' dive in a pool if you like. And you can pick all of our brains on why we dive our specific units and all that if you want to learn...

But it does help to have a 'squared away' foundation... :) DIR or otherwise... we all shun christmas trees....
