There has been two incidents recently; one at Lake Rawlings: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/ac...cident-lake-rawlings-sunday-05-27-2012-a.html and one in the Turks & Caicos: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/ac...on-about-discover-scuba-death-grand-turk.html

Both resulted in people and/or dive centers being expelled from PADI. Both expulsions seem to have occurred quickly. What's the procedures for PADI to expelled a pro or dive center? Is there a hearing attended by representatives of the expelled entity? I am surprised at how quickly PADI acted. Is this typical for PADI?

Here's the quality management process: PADI Members' Quality Management Program - Scuba Diving Instructors Evaluation Procedures

The routine QA flow-chart (not sure of a non-routine/critical one):

Perhaps with more hungry lawyers and fewer potential clients, especially ones with big pockets, and PADI perhaps finding themselves the target of a potential lawsuit, since Rick Lessor has proven no love or loyalty for PADI, they are acting faster to take action against those who don't follow standards.

The procedure is that when PADI QA/Legal hear or are told of an incident, they send a letter asking all PADI members about what happened. Depending on how the response is received, further action is or is not taken. If the dive Center/Member refuses to respond to PADI, PADI may suspend or expel them. This is a far cry from back in the day, when you didn't just have to allow someone to die on your watch, you had to actively kill them and then hide the body and get caught before you were expelled. I like the change, personally.

had no Idea. Thanks for the Info.
