I spare you the long story, I explain in short at the end. Question upfront:

Can someone after receiving the access codes for PADI e-learning set things up (e.g. on Ipad) such that they can study during a couple looong flights, most likely w/o wifi / wlan?
If so, how?
Or could it be printed somehow prior to departure? How?

Reason:
Friends travel from Asia to the US to meet up with us in FL. (I wish it was the other way around and we could meet in Indonesia or the Phillipines or...) They will take an OW class, for which they need to complete the e-learning (which they elected to do in their Mother tongue) prior to the class.

For some reason we were told it takes 72 hours after payment (made yesterday morning). If true (so far, 12+ hours after payment, no codes) that will put them in the position to only receive the codes right prior to departing on their long multi leg trip. If they cannot study in the air, they are not really going to be able to study prior to class on Wednesday. Unfortunately the shop chose so far to not give us an answer when we asked them the same question (above).

Mods, I stuck this in the basic thread since it's an OW class e-learning question and since thete may be e-learners (or pros) here that may know and since PADI does not appear to appear in the Q&A forum for cert. agencies. Please correct if this needs to be elsewhere.

Yes. What @oly5050user said.
PADI Touch products are DESIGNED for off line study. The only time you need connectivity is to take your exams.
But be careful on the website when you purchase. Both are listed as e-learning. Make sure it's Touch, and not "e-Learning".

If you've already received a code from your dive shop for the wrong product (you did say PADI e-Learning, and not PADI Touch), it's still possible to get it switched unless you've started using it. Call PADI Customer Service, and they can often get it sorted out.
It shouldn't take 72 hours in my experience to get the codes. Perhaps it's a payment processing issue from Asia? The bigger issue is software compatibility. I've had students need to work with their help desk to change tablet settings to get their iPad to work. They have a team that works that stuff, but again, doing this from Asia may be a challenge.

Thanks for your help and advise.
Yeah we paid here in the US with a US credit card. The payment is not the issue with the delay.
If it looks like I am letting off a little steam below, it is because I am letting some off while explaining. None of the steam directed at you so. Thanks for all the advise.

It now looks (in our reality working with the PADI shop) as unpromising as feared again because:

I learned from your advise, but also in the meantime from my wife (she is the Chinese-English interface):

- That she was advised by the shop early this week when she worked it out that Padi Touch is not yet ready / available in Chinese language and that Padi e-learning is the only option (as the shop insisted that a book won't make it in time either.

- no codes have been received yet. Payment came through just fine, just like all our credit card payments. I am feeling like a complete idiot paying for this, even so we are just laying it out for our friends.
I will find out how they feel about it next week, but I have a good idea and feel embarassed being party to such an inferior product / experience.

- e-learning does require connectivity.

So, all together that's just sad and bad.

Especially that it is so much more difficult by the proper legal means and payment to obtain this training timely and for use on the road then, comparatively say by searching for something downloadable in China. Shame. I am not going to advise doing such a thing and I hope it's not necessary, but if they did I wouldn't need to know. They would not exactly hve been left with options by being "guided" the way they were...

Update:
The e-learning code now arrived. Hopefully they get a at least a day to use it before hitting the air.
The rest is what it is.
