I'm interested in becoming a DM. For NAUI DM, master diver cert is required, etc, etc.
PADI, you can go in with AOW+RESCUE,etc, etc. So isn't it faster and cheaper to go the PADI DM route?

Let see faster and cheaper. What is the question? What will best serve the people you will be leading and assisting. Because at the pro level it really is not about you anymore. Anyone who tells you different run away from.

eth727,

Read up a bit on the standards and you will see that NAUI Master Diver Certification isn't required.

NAUI Worldwide Leadership Courses

Certification - Certification as NAUI Master Scuba Diver and NAUI Scuba Rescue Diver or their equivalent. Divers with evidence of equivalent training and experience may be enrolled provided they pass the NAUI Master Scuba Diver written examination with a minimum score of 75%.

I am a NAUI Divemaster that's the route I took .. passing the NAUI Master Scuba Diver exam. The exam is tough ... expecially all that dive physics we all love to hate. lol

Yeah I'm NAUI ADV,ADV RESCUE,1st Aid,CPR,DAN02 certified. I was looking at the NAUI ratings chart and it looked like Master was a prereq to DM. I wouldn't mind taking Master but if I can save the time & $$ since DM is my final goal.

One thing you might want to consider, if you're planning to work as a DM, (i.e. assisting classes, etc.) is what the certifying agency is in the place you will be working. This came up in the PADI DM class I'm currently taking. I'm not sure about NAUI, but to work with a PADI class, you need to be a PADI certified professional (DM or higher).

Problem was candidates failing physics in NAUI ITC's. Their defense was they were not "exposed" to physics. Requiring Master Diver OR equivalent fixed that. With being a NAUI DM you are expected to be "IN CHARGE" of diving, not merely assisting.
