I know exactly what you mean, but I think that a lot of people are genuinely concerned about the way someone may be doing something wrong. They just sound arrogant because the have to type instead of talking and sometimes take shortcuts to save keystrokes.
The others are just spouting their superiority (in their opinion)

And you know what they say about opinions....

Opinions are like A$$H@#E$.... everybody has one.

I just ignore the replies that I don't like and I assume that they meant well but didn't express themselves correctly.

;)

We had to go with the agency available here. But I'm intrigued by the methods of the others. They all have something to offer.

MikeFerrara:
No. It's because if there's only PADI congress in conjunction with the UN, NATO and the EU will decide that it isn't safe to let divers out in the big water and they'll be restricted to diving inside the beach ropes at the local swimming hole...only when a life gard is on duty of course.

You better be on the look-out for black helicopters Mike. I think they know where you live. ;)

You do know, don't you, that there is a way to block certain members from future viewing.

I go with your general view that we don't need a lot of negative vibes all the time - diving's a pretty mellow sport - let's aim to reflect that here.

I'll chime in with Wendy on this one. I've generally found Scubaboard members to be pretty tolerant of each others' differences, in training, certification, lifestyles, religious affiliation, politics, etc.

Sorry that you've had a different experience. Stay with us a bit, and you'll see that it's a great place to share ideas...

the EU will decide
You just had mention the EU and spoil my day didn't you ;)

The best job (and wealth) creation scheme I've ever seen. EU commisioners, Parasites the lot of em.

Well I feel better now

I am not sure why the "PADI congress" would want to ban ocean diving. I completed my PADI confined water training in the shallows, protected by a reef. The open water dives, were shore dives in the ocean.

So in other words you feel threatened by all of these other divers and you feel the need to post bizarre, baseless attacks to sustain your own ego.

I think I get it.

Cross your legs. Put your arms on your knees with the palms facing up. touch your fore fingers to your thumbs. Close your eyes and say, "Hummmmmmm","Hummmmmmm","Hummmmmmm","Hummmmmmm"

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one, jonnythan. I know I'm proud of the training I recieved years ago when I started this, and in many ways I feel my training was better than some that's being thrown out now. However, I still feel humbled when I see people who are truly at home in the water, and are self-aware enough that everything comes natural to them. Instead of being threatened by this though, I'm in awe, and strive to learn from them. I found out a long time ago that your ego can write checks that your butt can't cash, so it's better to leave the ego at the door. I can, and almost always do, learn from every person I dive with. Even if it's what NOT to do..
