we are going with Mike Ball Expeditions out of Cairnes in about 3 weeks. I will give you any info. from that trip when we return. We chose them because we believe that the crew on a live aboard is a big part of what makes or breaks your trip, and we read lots of good comments about Mike Ball on scuba sites and magazines. We hope we made a good choice - as it is expensive.

Havent personally dived with Mike Ball but know quite a few people who have and all their reports give them an A+ rating.

Did the Prodive livaboard in October 2008, 29 divers onboard, (ask for the double cabins, if a couple), 11 dives 2 at night. Excellent briefings on the dive sites, good healthy meals not gourmet but plenty of it. Bit rocky going out, but weather inproved. Some doing advanced certificate, some open water, and some like us just pleasure/photo diving. Going again mid year 2009 so I was very happy with the whole deal. Hope to dive Ewans Ponds Mt Gambia (cold 11 degrees )before the reef again.

Ewan Ponds is magic, did it as a day dive many years ago, have been told it is an awesome night dive, laying there looking up at the stars through crystal clear water.

I didn't reply about our trip with Mike Ball. We did have a great time, and would go again - the boat was nice, the crew great and we totally enjoyed our time

I did OW with Deep Sea Diver's Den last June and it was excellent. Two days classroom/pool at their Cairns facility, and 3 days liveaboard to do the 4 training dives, then 6 dives of our own. Liveaboard facilities were great.

I spent 3 days and 2 nights with Pro-Dive in Cairns, I did the AOW and my wife snorkeled. I had a great time, they will not only give you the classes but will make them interesting and fun.
The attached photos were from the trip in Dec. Feel free to contact me for more information.

My husband and I did the TAkA livaboard in November 2008 and really enjoyed it ( See post in Spirit of Freedom or Taka) I also did AOW on board and it was excellent. I would recommend the TAKA -it is reportedly less luxurious than Mike Ball but also less expensive. Of course haven't been on the Spirit of Freedom

Have fun!!
