I know you should take a class that is as long as possible so you have the most time to absorb the info. I was just wondering what is the makeup of these 2 day courses? I know everything is pretty much read the book before but how does the class actually go? 1st day review watch movie and test /2nd day all pool dives or am I totally off? Just don't know how they can expect some people that have no clue about snorkeling more or less scuba to be able to come in and perform all the drills in one day.

Some resort courses last longer than that......lol......I would cut & run on that offer......

Our LDS does the 2 day classroom portion: Sat Morning, classroom with discussion/lecture over the stuff you went over with the home course. 4 quizzes and the final exam before lunch. Rest of Saturday is in the pool learning skills. Sunday, about 4-5 hours in the pool doing more skills.
You still need to do another weekend for the check dives.. But, the confined portion is 2 days..

Get your Book and DVD (if you want it) and study for a few weeks in advance. I know in my OW class there were a couple students that bought their materials the first day of class. Was NOT fun being slowed by them.

Open water diver in 2 days?? sounds fast to me. If everything is included in the course. Theory, pool and dives.
we do a 3 day course here and that is already heavy.
1 st day knowledge 1,2&3 in the morning, pool 1 and 2 + 1 dive in the afternoon.
2nd day knowledge 4&5+exam in the morning, afternoon pool 3 and 4 and 1 dive.
3rd day 2 dives in the morning. paperwork (exam if needed) in the afternoon.

A referral course can easily be done in 2 days. ( 2 mornings)

but a 2 day complete course???? Talking about taskloading. (also for the instructor :-))

It is a 2 day classroom and pool with the next weekend being a 2 day check out dive. Dunno, still seems kinda rushed IMHO. However, I guess with pre self study and a good general knowledge in the water it could be done.

I did my OW at my LDS in an "executive course" that was Friday night (6pm - 9pm), then Saturday and Sunday (all day - 9am to 6pm) if I recall. Check out dives were done the following weekend. All gear and books had to be purchased PRIOR to Friday nights class (as did all of the PADI paperwork), so everyone could hit the ground running. They also limited the class size to keep things moving.

I thought it was a good class. Like most, you get out of it, what you put into it. Do all the reading and practice tests before the first class.

And we wonder why new OW divers have no buoyancy, no trim, can't fin, and have no idea of weighting requirements.

It's a shame really.

I got my OW certification in Barbados in Three days and it was perfect. I did all the studying the prior to arrival. It would have been two days had i watched those dvds prior to getting there.

The first day i had to watch the DVDs and then we did the swimming and treading water and the "confined" water drills - these were done off the shore.

The second day we dove!! The third day we dove more!! (of course skills, skills, skills throughout the dives)

I HIGHLY recommend this method! One on one instruction was AWESOME. I learned alot from the instructor and this fully prepared me, I believe, to dive and also to proceed with further training.

My instructor stressed skills and made it clear why they were important. I think I leared alot more in those three days then I would have with a class of 8+ divers and one instructor.

just my opinion but it totally worked for me.

My local SSI shop has an identical executive course, 6-9 friday night, all day saturday and sunday. They keep the class size small so they can make sure each student is getting all the concepts and skills in the pool. Works out well. They also have a regular course though which takes place over the course of several weeks.
