Check out the threads on the DiveCaddy system. I couldn't believe all the stuff I got in the system which itself weighs 5 pounds. It basically compresses everything into a bag that is easy for TSA to inspect (if they allow you to 'open' the bag for them). I fit my 3XL BCD, reg/spg, computer, fins, booties, 3XL skin, 3 prs shorts, sandals, 5 underwear, 6 shirts, and toiletries into the DiveCaddy backpack system and another carryon with all my camera gear. I rarely am allowed to actually carry all this on the plane, but a gate check is much safer than checking the bag outside the TSA checkpoint. You'll know right at the plane if you are missing something.
