OxyOxyCheq Mach V Signature and Extreme

I am looking into getting my first BP/W setup and have been looking at the OxyCheq Mach V Signature and Extreme Series Wings. I wanted an extremely good single wing setup that would cover most everything from lake dives to cave diving. I will do some cold water diving, a moderate amount of lake (as it is closer to me) and of course tropical dives on vacation. It also needs to be travel friendly since I am far from any ocean diving and plan to take trips each year.

I would be willing to pay extra for the extreme if it is worth it, but I wanted to get your opinions.

If you think this isn't a good setup to cover most types of diving, then I am open to suggestions. I appreciate your input. Thanks.

Edit: If getting the Signature Series, I was leaning toward the 30#, but would the 40# be a better choice for possible high seas?

Get a Mach V. I have a Signature, and can tell you the Mach V is much sexier. As to 30# or 40#, we just picked up my gal a 30# Mach V to go with her Freedom Plate for cold water diving and it will get used in the tropics. The Extreme wing is definitely cool, but unless you are in a Sea Hunt episode I don't really see a need. The cordura cover is darn tough on it's own.

I just thought about my previous post and wanted to clear up the cave diving part. I do realize I will need a more advanced setup for cave diving, but this will be used for caverns and less hard core dives as it is limited to a single tank.

I assume that any standard back plate will work, but I am all ears if you have BP recommendations.

One back plate is never enough. For doubles I use an aluminum plate. For singles I prefer a stainless plate. I have a Freedom Plate for singles which is awesome. It rocks in the tropics against my bare skin. Something that I could never do with my other plate. Then I have an aluminum plate for doubles that is a Dive Rite. It works but if it wasn't free I doubt I would have bought it. Instead I would go after a Halcyon, or a Deep Sea Supply for doubles.

Will you using steel or alu tanks and how much weight do your normally use for dry and wet? Are you using steel of alu plates?

I suggest that you give a call to Edd at caveadventurers.com 850-482-6016 I got a lot of great advice on what gear to get and I ended up with an Extreme Recon II wing and Extreme Mach V 30 wing.

Unless you're doing cave diving in very confined spaces or places where the wing might get damaged, the extra $70 or $80 isn't necessary.

I got the extreme series as I already have a couple of signature wings n wanted something different.

Thanks. I'll have to check my dive log to see what my exact weighting was. The diving I've done lately is just tropical reef with a jacket BCD I borrowed. No suit used at all since the water was so warm. I mainly use aluminum tanks, but I use steel from time to time depending on which charter I use.

For that you'll need a fencing suit and armored hoses too.

Unless you're using steel 120s, > 20lbs of weight, 10mm wetsuit & a steel bp, I don't think you'll need a 40 lbs wing.

I was considering the 40 lbs for sm diving with multiple alu 80s tanks but I mostly dive wet with up to 5 mm suits so a 30 is ok for me.

I suggest that you give Edd a call for some EXPERIENCED advice .

I do dive steel 120s, wear >20 lbs weight and dive a 40# Mach V Extreme. (I got the Extreme because that's what was cheap on EBay.). Good to know that I'm protected from knife-wielding enemy divers. Mike would be proud.
