Yup, but the new Halcyon Eclipse has a second outershell cover to further protect it from abrasion.

I do think that most BP wings are equal. The reasons why I went with Halcyon (over Dive Rite & OMS) ...

1) I like the smaller bladder offering of Halcyon (I'm using a 27)
2) I like the circular bladder shape..less prone to air trapping when swimming horizontally or head-down...and you need to dump air from lower pull dump.
3) Dive Rite dealer stopped selling Dive Rite here
4) OMS dealer is not going to continue to bring in new OMS products.

But honestly... it's a balloon bolted to a metal plate... other than good ol' time testing... there really is no way of judging the quality of construction between brands.

Hey All --

Maybe I'm missing something here but everyone seems to be telling me that an Oxycheq setup is a great deal compared w/ Halcyon setup. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place but this is what I see:

covci.com sells the 30# oxychec for $225
extremeexposure.com sells the 27# pioneer for $278

Now correct if me if I'm wrong but doesn't the oxycheq setup need an STA whereas the pioneer doesn't? STAs aren't cheap from I can see..

I also need to get a BP/Harness, which I havent been able to find for less than $150

so $225 + 150 + STA = 450 minimum (guessing on STA here)
OR i could get a complete Halcyon pioneer system for $500 with a storage compartment attached to the BP. Thats only 10% for name brand recognition? Worth it?

Am I totally missing something?

Hi,
S&W Metal Products sells their backplate for 71.00 and STA for 45.00, harness at 40.00. Should be cheaper than others??

Call up Scott or Covci and ask them how much for a full Oxycheq wing setup, then call Extreme Exposure and ask them how much for the Halcyon.

Just last week Scott was offering complete Oxycheq setups for $400, too. Huh.

I own both

There is NO trim difference between them. The only difference is the maximum lift. You will never need the 45 at depth, but you might want it on the surface in rough conditions.

Unlike the other major player in this game (cough-cough) there are no "expando panels" on the bottom outside of the wing to potentially get punctured or mess with your trim.

There really is no Penality in terms of drag and trim if you go with the 45lb wing. I use the 45lb Oxycheq wing and have had no issues. It's nice to be able to pump up the wing and get the full 45lbs of lift during a long kick back into shore. I would go for the 45lb wing over the 30lb.

I'm considering asking my daughter to bring me an Oxycheq 50# with SS bp setup from COVCI when she comes to visit me over Christmas and was wondering if anyone has tried it. I've read all the threads regarding the Oxycheq wings but didn't find anything about the 50# for doubles.

I'm not yet using doubles but plan to begin within a few months. I've begun using a drysuit for the cold water here and think 50# will be plenty of lift for steel lp 10 liter Fabers, though I welcome any comments if my reasoning is faulty.

Thanks in advance!

Phil

I have 45# wing, but that's because I do Dry suit diving with OMS LP 112 and 125 (singles); If I would dive in Carib. or FLorida, I would get the 30# wing.

Overall, I like my wing alot. but then again, I've only used it in cold water, so I am not sure how this would translate with using it with an AL80 tank...

The wing is marvelous though, the trip is definitely top notch, and I have proven it even with strong current St. Lawrence.

I plan to switch to doubles soon, and will be looking at Oxycheq 50# wing for doubles... Although, I would personally prefer 55# (but they don't have it... yet). Any thought on using 50# with doubles PST 130 (or older 104?) I know most people recommend 55lb lift wing for those tanks, but I aren't the new E130 tanks supposed to be lighter than older 104s?

Do they have a website? Where can I find more info?
The one link I found is dead and if I do a search all I get it scubaboard threads or links to the company that make the O2 analizers.
