Interesting exchange. My ten-year-old Zeagle has plastic buckles that have never failed. (I did have to replace the bladder.) But my wife's five year old Oxycheq has had two broken plastic buckles. The Oxycheq buckles are noticeably less robust than both the Zeagle and the Oceanic which was used for the first replacement on the Oxycheq.

Thank you Alex. I actually have everything I need, including a needle appropriate for heavy duty webbing.

I've sewn my own tank straps with a Singer. For some reason, I wanted blue and not black. I even sewed on strips of velcro to keep the belt down. A bit of innertube works well for that as well. I have seen people use sex bolts and rivets to do the same thing. It's all good.

It is possible to spring the metal part of the buckle to replace the plastic part but does take some leverage. I have done it once but probably would not bother again instead would replace with a new stainless steel buckle and strap.
