Anyonewith experience or knowledge of both care to share their comparisons?

Neither seems to need a backplate, both take s a wing, both is a step above in comfort level of a HOG harness yet both seem to be extremely adjustable and would lend themselves to a very BIG guy. Both seem to be the perfect option for someone who travels 5-10x a year for all of their dives.

Going through the process of evaluating these vs. a bp/w myself, this is the list I've made up:

Pros of Transpac:

Very comfortable
Adjustable
Padded
Light

Cons:

Padding and such which makes it comfy also makes it more buoyant, meaning more weight
Wrap-around at the hip means it doesn't feel as open and unencumbered as a bp/w

While I'm often right at luggage weight limits, the 3# difference between this and the bp/w setup I was looking at will mean more weight off my body, especially with lowered buoyancy without the padding.

My solution? Going with a bp/w, but with quick release/adjustable shoulders (look at the harness from DSS for example) rather than a hog to begin with. Padding is nice, but my bp/w try out in Cozumel didn't seem to indicate the need for it (I only rarely shore dive - that might change my opinion of need for padding - and I can always add it even with a hog rig if I wanted)

If I hadn't had the chance to dive a bp/w, and was going in theory, the in-shop comfort of the Transpac might have swayed me. But knowing how incredible it felt to feel like I was diving totally free with a bp/w, nothing on the front of my body, even with a hog harness... well, the more I thought, the more I went back to the bp/w with slight adjustments for ease and comfort... for now. (Expect to see a hog in the future when I'm more used to the entire setup.)

I use the APAK-Lite.. I didn't want the pockets... I use it on a RB but it works well on singles and doubles also.. Very confortable and adjustable.. I have used the DR product but I fell the oxycheq product has a small edge.. The contour on the straps follows the body nicely so its VERY confortable..

Agree with most of the above.

I would also say it depends what you see yourself doing in the future. I have ...and recommend you go with the DR TransPlate....as it will let you go more
techie if that becomes an interest. You can go delux harness or Hog...which ever floats your boat.

I find that any system with a lot of padding will retain water much longer.

I also find the TP very easy to travel with. Mine will be on board with me on my upcoming Barbados trip.

You can remove the back and waist padding on the Transpac. I find, I don't need it, but can always put it back on if I want.

Have you also considered the O-Pac? It looks almost like a bp/w cept it has a padded pad that has the same dimensions as a plate.

It might not be suitable for doubles but it looks really light for travel.
