Hi all.

I will be flying in to Thailand from KL around 18th of November. Which would be good place to get the Open water certification during that time.

You are getting a whole load of random recommendations because you have not provided enough information about yourself and what you are looking for. This makes it difficult for people to assess what would be right for you.

For instance if you are a 50yr old businessman with an interest in Thai culture, you should probably stay well away from Koh Tao or Koh Samui.

If you want to do some serious shopping whilst you are in Thailand then maybe you would consider Bangkok, and therefore Pattaya for your diving, or Phuket.

Also, are there other activities that you are interested in? For instance if you wanted to try rock climbing too then there is no better base than Ao Nang or Krabi. If you want the cheapest course available then Koh Tao probably IS your best bet. If you want the best diving experience with money no object then a course with a liveaboard in the Similans might be a good idea.

If you are outgoing then choose a big busy dive school where you can meet lots of people. If you want personal attention then perhaps choose a smaller operation.

Tell us more about yourself and maybe you will get some more appropriate advice.
