I was all set to do my first 5hr dive today but ended up working on the boat ... since I was excited, had gotten all my gear ready and still wanted to do a shake down dive with the new rig I ended up doing a 30 minute dive for the tourists in doubles and AL80 stage - It was a blast - btw I was celebrating dive #500 - the guests on board all celebrated with me and got a chuckle out of me with all my tanks coming up to the window to show them urchins etc. lol. One of my co-workers was kind enough to snap a couple pics for me - made for a really nice day (and I'll just reschedule the long dive  )

Aloha, Tim

Congrats on your 500th dive, Tim! :)

(Nice stickers, BTW.)

You were going to do 5 hrs!
My word!
I knew being the only DIR diver on Maui had to be getting to you but I had no idea it was that bad! :D

Grats on dive 500!

Congrats Tim! I think you'd get cold after a few hours! I can't wait for the 5 hour dive. I'll come join you for a while when you do it! Just keep me in the loop!

Have a great weekend!!

Sean

edit: I forgot you were going to wear a 5 mil... maybe you can make it!!

Looking pretty fancy there!

Five hours . . . I'd get HUNGRY before then!

Sound like you had fun even if it wasn't a 5 hour dive. Dive number 500, eh! Great job!! :)

Lynne - Actually you can eat underwater, it's just a matter of finding the right food ... I've been practicing with bananas. Anything that is not absorbant works, but it's hard to find those kinds of foods. I did have 3 bottles of water/gatoraide along as liquid would be my problem... going a few hours without food in my case can only be a good thing

Sean - I do have a second set of doubles ya' know  just need to find another wing for you :) - And I was going to wear the drysuit, but since it doesn't have a P-valve ... well you know ... 5mil suit, hood & gloves should be enough this time of year. Sooo - what are you doing next Friday? (actually once I get my scooter I know a reef that will keep your camera eye busy for hours ... so maybe start planning on joining me the end of November)

Thanks everyone - it was a fun day :)

Would a high protien drink of some sort do the trick on long dives?

I imagine one of the meal replacement drinks (Slim-Fast etc) would be about perfect, just make sure it's put in a flexible container first (as most come in a can) - Calories would be less of a concern to me than dehydration however.
