Am I out of touch or have airfares to the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America just gone through the roof? I'm trying to get to Bonaire in late June and air from ATL is running anywhere from $800 to 1200 USD. Do airfares drop once the weather warms a bit?

I have checked around & unless you just happen to stumble over a big special going on, I'd say that $800- $1200 is the going rates. You are going at the peak of travel season, so fares are not likely to go down. Sometimes you can get a bit of a deal during slow times of the year March- late May (execpt for spring break time) or late Aug.- mid Nov. (but you have to contend with hurricanes at this time). I booked a mid May flight from Louisville, KY to Georgetown, Exuma, Bahamas & back for $580 in Dec.,but with the airlines reducing the # of flights, meaning more demand for the seats, the airlines can pretty much charge what they want. Sorry for the bad news.

GaTT,

I just did a search for this flight profile on KAYAK and they show the price profile that has occured over the last 90 days. From December 14, 2006, the minimum price for this flight has gone from about $450.00 to around $800.00. I would say your assessmsnet of through the roof is spot on.

GaTT,

Not so fast. You're post peaked my interest and I just checked the price for a ticket from Dulles to Roatan I bought two months ago for the last two weeks of March..Actually going on to Utila but through Roatan. Anyway it dropped almost $200.00 in that same period. So the moral of the story is buy early and the price drops, buy late and the price increases. Sort of like playing the stock market.

Well, I found a cheap airfare from Charlotte, NC to St. Thomas ($340) but what I save in airfare (versus Bonaire) I spend on boat dives -- so it appears to be nearly a wash. And all things equal, I'd just as soon go to Bonaire. I've been daydreaming about it for weeks. I'll just have to save more diligently!

I find the best time to shop for air fares in mid week during the wee hours - preferably for January travel. :D

It's all supply & demand..

Impressive. I just tried that site on Lubbock to Cozumel for 4/11-16: $439

My Sidestep program kicked in automatically: $439

Then I check Continental.com: $433

Ya just never know. Keep shopping and buy when you find it. :D

(Now if she would just make up her mind....!)

Go to my favorite travel site - http://www.zuji.com.sg/web/content/sg/index.html

I like Zuji because it allows me to do Flexible date searching for international travel. I did a quick search and I was able to find a June Atlanta-Bonaire RT air fare of $472. Sure enough if I take the dates that I was able to find at Zuji, I can find the same fare at AA.com - Departing June 14 returning June 22.

:-)

Eric

The $472 fare includes taxes ... Good fare.
