What would have happened to me when I had to float to the surface immediately after taking the last air out of the tank while at the same time exhaling the air as I go toward the surface.

Assuming you followed your training and did a proper Out of Air Ascent, the only thing that would have happened is that the dive operator would have charged you for a VIP and possibly a cleaning.

. . and his air also ran out shortly after as I was starting taking in water as I breath from his octopus.

It's more likely that you were holding it upside down. Many regulators breathe a little wet when upside down.

If he did not look back for for several more mintues, I would've been completly out of air and I could not imaging what I would have done.

I would suggest starting with a SCUBA Refresher class. All the procedures that you would have needed to handle your OOA problem without the DM were taught in your Open Water class.

flots.

A wet breathing octo sounds to me like a different problem than the DM being out of gas--either a mechanical problem with the regulator, or maybe he just had it upside down?
