Hi all,

My wife and I are going to Cozumel for the first time!!! We'll be there Oct. 22nd thru the 29th. We're booked with our dive shop club at the Scuba Club Cozumel. We're supposed to get 5 days of 2 tank boat dives, but my wife really wants to book this Dive with the Dolphins thing she's heard about....

I found thier website, dolphindiscovery.com and at the Cozumel location (if your a certified diver) you can dive with the dolphins... It's a bit pricy though...

What I was really wanting to find out, does anyone know when our 5 days of boat diving would be? Would it be Sunday thru Thrusday, or Mon. - Fri. ??

The Dolphin Dive thing is only Sat. Sun. and Mon. @ 2 PM, so I'm trying to book early (heck I may already be too late as the website says to try and book 2 MONTHS in advance!!!).

But, I'm going to do whatever I can to get us in there, my wife REALLY want's to do it.

So to sum up:

Anyone know when the 5 days' of boat diving usally is @ Scuba Club?
Anyone ever done the Dive w/ Dolphins before? Was it worth it? How much did they charge you for the video and pictures?

Thanks in advance all!

Since they dive 7 days a week, your 5 days of diving will most likely start the day after arrival. I'd dive Oct 23-27 leaving a whole day off (10/28) before flying home on Oct 29. Depending on when your flight is on Saturday, you might take a day off in the middle and dive on Friday.

Personally, I feel it is just wrong to keep sentient beings captive just for the entertainment of tourists and the profit of the captive dolphin program. But that is just my opinion, you are free to do whatever you want.

Check out this thread specifically the one Christi pointed out (the last link).

Don't shoot the messenger... I'm not trying to start this whole debate all over again, just wanted you to be aware of what you are supporting. From what I have heard the Dolphins are taken better care of at Chankanaab than at the facility near town.

We have been to Scuba Club Cozumel twice now. You can sign up to dive what ever days you want and if you want to skip a day, you just don't sign up for that day. They are good people to dive with and they work around your vacation.

Only problem..............I wish I was going.

Have a good trip and enjoy the diving.

Jeff, that is a good link.

I wasn't trying to judge anyone either with my opinion, I just wanted to present an opinion that was contrary to the conventional thought that it would be fun to swim/dive with captive dolphins.

Diff'rent strokes...

Thanks to Christi for bringing it to our attention. I obviously didn't want to get too involved with stating my opinion either. I've been known to attend the Shedd Aquarium here in Chicago which does NOT have that great of a record when it comes to it's bigger animals so I have no room to talk.

Cozumelmycozumel.com translates the local news usually once a week... it's a good resource for us Cozumel obsessed folks who want to keep abreast of what's going on down there.

Me, I'm too depressed to read it... it's going to be a long while before I can get back down there.

Wow, we had no idea that those dolphins were treated so poorly. I guess we just assumed that this place was up to "US" standards like a Sea World type place....

My wife and I have started looking into other activities...

A rental car for a day and a tour of the island that includes the East side is a worth while way to spend the day.

Also, check out This List of Doc V's things to do on Cozumel (other than diving) from my friend Judy's website, www.awoosh.com . I completely agree with the number one thing to do, get the Cozumel map from www.cancunmap.com It is way more than just a map.

Thanks DiveBorg!

Horseback riding sounds good!
