Hi

I am looking into doing a dive at the HMAS Brisbane in the next couple of weekends.
A few questions :

Is Brisbane the closest Airport to HMAS Brisbane (I am currently in Sydney)

Any Recommendations on a good Dive Company for the HMAS Brisbane

I will be hiring a car so was wondering if there are any other good dive sites in the surrounding area.

Thanks for any input

Steve

Hi Steve,

There is the Sunshine Coast Airport. However, it could be quite expensive to fly straight here, so might be easier to fly into Brisbane and then drive up (takes approximately 1.5 hours to drive up).

Re: the dive company - I've only used my boat to dive the HMAS Brisbane, so am not sure which one would be the best. There are at least two companies - one at Mooloolaba and the other at Noosa. I'd be more inclined to go with the one at Mooloolaba because they seem more professional and better set up.

Other significant dive sites - Julian Rocks at Byron Bay and Wolf Rock at Tincan Bay. If you're after a bit of snorkelling, Morton Island (outskirts of Brisbane) has quite a few shallow wrecks.

Hope this is helpful.

Regards, Alison

I have done about 10 or so dive on the Brisbane and have done them with two companies. Sunreef and also Scubaworld. Both of which are located in Mooloolaba and both of which are very good companies. If your driving from Brisbane, why not do some dives around Morton and Stradbroke?

what the other guys said here - Nth Straddie is about 40mins from brissy and a ferry ride and the diving there was very nice

the dive boat at the time was a bit of a pita - beach launch but the diving made up for it

i thought you had to fly to marroochydore for hmas brisbane - can the qld'ers confirm this??

For direct flights make sure you fly into Sunshine Coast Airport (just 5 minutes North of Maroochydore).

Hi fellow southerners!!

Firstly, did you happen to see the State of Origin?

Agreed that it would be better to fly into Brissy (come diving with us here) and then hire a car to get to the HMAS Brisbane. If we coordinated it correctly, I could even drag the boat up there and we could go out together.

Dont dismiss the Brissy dive sites quickly as Curtin artificial reef, Flinders Reef, Flat rock (off straddie with the GNS) and a couple of deeper wreck dives are all worth a look.

PM me when you want to come up and you can join our independant group for a dive or three.

Cheers
