Hi,
I have friends staying on paradise island in the bahamas (is that part of nassau?) I might be able to get away and stay in nassau. My question is, how easy is it to get to paradise island from nassau, is it a big hassle, expensive, or is there just a ferry or bridge to get over there? Thanks for your help!

Hi jas,

Paradise Island is connected to Nassau by a bridge. There are also water taxis going back and forth about every 20 mins from the docks near the straw market and cruise ships. It is quite easy to get to.

There are a couple of hotels very near the straw market, within walking distance. The Holiday Inn Junkanoo is very close, an affordable hotel. Not the Ritz by any means, but nice. The British Colonial Hilton is the closest to town, but a little more $$$$$$$$$.

Hope this helps,

Andrew

As was pointed out in the previous post, water taxis head out to Paradise Island on a regular basis, but I'm not sure how late the service runs. It was $3 each way when we were there last year and its pick up and drop off point on New Providence (Nassau) is right at the back of the straw market, about a half block east of the Hilton. There are also small buses that run on a regular basis for a couple of bucks each way, but again I don't know how late it runs. Taxis are out 24/7 and ran about $10 to $12 for two people to and from PI/Hilton.

If you can get a deal at the Hilton (about $125 per night) its a great hotel, has its own little beach downtown and is central to everything. If you are looking for a budget hotel, as mentioned there is a Holiday Inn about 3 or 4 blocks away and a newly acquired Quality Inn which shows some of the lowest rates on the island.

Thanks for the info everyone, it was extremly helpful..
Any idea how the red carpet in is in nassau. It was the cheapest on expedia for a flight+hotel deal for 2 nights/3 days, but I know cheapest isnt always the way to go! I think it was the red carpet inn, it had red in it anyways lol.
Thanks!

I was in Nassau staying on Cable Beach last week. Paradise Island is easily accessible by ferry from Nassau Harbor. A one way pass costs $3. You can also get on the no. 10 jitney that runs all the way down west bay street (past cable beach) for $1. It is very very easy to get around North East New Providence and Paradise Island. Heck...you can walk across the bridge for like 75 cents.

The taxis run until 5pm. The jitneys run until 6pm.

While you are there, give Stuart's Cove a call and do a wall dive. They pick up from all Cable Beach, Nassau, and Paradise Island hotels.

If I recall, the Red Carpet in is in the South West corner of the island, which is difficult to get around in. Nassau Beach Hotel on Cable Beach is very affordable (I think we payed like $90-100/night). The facilities aren't too great, but the Crystal Palace Casino is next door and you can always sneak into their hot tub. The beach at Nassau Beach Hotel is very nice and quiet, too.

I second the opinion as to Stuart Cove's. Good dive op.
