Nothing killed the Maya. They are still there and still building things out of rocks and mud, but they do use some poor quality concrete now.
 
They certainly ARE much diminished . . . and drought is an attractive theory. These data are interesting.
 
If you're looking for a single cause as to why the Mayan civilization collapsed, drought is a pretty good bet.

I suspect that there were numerous reasons, including drought, unsustainable farming practices, social unrest and disease among the major causes, all feeding off of each other.

In any case, it's good to see the Blue Hole making an appearance here other than the usual bashing we give each other over it.
