Hi All,

Looking at doing a 4 day trip to the above. - Looks like it may be amazing..

They include a "Shark Feed"... is it just me but isn't that a bit touristy ?

I've always left sealife well alone, as I am a guest in their world.

Don't get me wrong I'd love to see some Sharks, but on their terms, not ours ?

Wadya all recon ?

LM,

You'll see sharks on their terms at Osprey. In most cases they will be deeper than you and further out in the blue.

There is only one shark feed/attract. Each boat does their big shark dive slightly differently. Most do a feed -- but it does differ. I defer to Andrew who will likely pick up on this. He can give you the details.

I've done Spirit of Freedom which does a feed. I've also done Undersea Explorer that does an attract dive. UE put a crate with fishheads in the water. The sharks will come in to check it out -- think of when you go into the kitchen to check out the cake baking in the oven. Thus, the sharks come in but it doesn't turn into a frenzied feed.

All of the boats use the exact same site for the feed/attract. These sharks have been interacting with divers there for 15 years or so.

Agree with you about seeing animals on their own terms. it's one dive out of many. If you are opposed you can sit it out. But you will see sharks on about every dive at Osprey.

Eau,

Thanks. Also apparently the Yongalla Wreck is on the cards... If in Oz sounds like a site not to miss, (Osprey).. ?

BTW Bondi Beach looked a bit stormy.. what's the yellow thing on your BC left shoulder, Knife ? Light ?
Like the Pink toes... :14:

LM,

I think Osprey is great. In Oz I've only dove Northern GBR, Osprey, Forster/Seal Rocks & Ningaloo (pretty fantastic IMHO) so I can't compare to the many other areas & sites. Originally I was planning to dive the Yongala. However, when I tried to book, it was far enough in advance that none of the trips were guaranteed because they didn't have enough numbers. I would have had to schedule flights/travel there and back between other things and didn't want to take the risk. I understand the Yongala is very weather dependent. Also, the ProDive liveaboard tends to fill up closer to departure time (from what I was told). It's still on my list!

Yep Bondi was really getting cloudy, but it didn't rain much in the end. That was my last day in Sydney/Australia.

The yellow thing is actually neon green on land! It's a little strobe that I keep on me at all times. I'll use it on a night dive, and I have it as an emergency signal should I ever need it. Think of the 8 divers who just went missing in Taiwan (and were found 36 hours later) a week or so ago.

Regarding the toes, a girl has to look good underwater -- never know when you'll meet an interesting fish!! :blinking:

Humm good idea, where did you get it ?I presume you can switch it off/on when you want to..
I guess it's only useful at night ?
What's the scoop re the divers in Taiwan ?
