I live in Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima) Thailand. My wife and I are planning a dive in late August. We just checked our dive computer batteries. My Zoop Novo is OK, but her original Zoop battery is low so we want to replace it.

I know that many people say that it is possible to replace your Zoop battery and O-ring by yourself. These people have no idea how clumsy and inept I am, especially for tasks involving fine motor control. Most of my attempts at the repair of stuff end up with me destroying it and purchasing a new replacement.

So, I need to have someone less uncoordinated than I do the battery replacement. Last time we replaced a Suunto battery (D4i) I had Dive Supply do it. I had to personally take the computer to their shop in Bangkok, have them replace the battery and then go back to Bangkok to pick up the computer. This was awkward and expensive.

There must be a better way.

Any suggestions?

I'm pretty fat fingered too but can replace the battery and o-ring on my Zoop...the key is having a Torq 6 screwdriver. In any case, if you don't want to attempt it yourself (it does kinda require three hands), source the battery kit either from Dive Supply or Lazada and have the shop who you're going to dive with do it. There's almost always a "gear head" at any dive shop who can do these small service jobs. The price should be free (tip 100-200 baht if a Thai staff member).

Original zoop did not require the torx screwdriver. Battery cover is held in place with a lock ring that rotates about 1/4". A pair of pin pliers or a face spanner is helpful for turning it but you can push it with a blunt pick etc in a pinch. A 2450 battery is the required size. Hope your pressure sensor is good.

There's another reason for not doing it myself.
That’s nothing to do with you. SUUNTO had a depth sensor issue. In the US, they had a recall

Issue resolved. The dive shop arranging the upcoming dive said just send it to them and they'll take care of it.

The key should be included in the original package.

Suunto did not include a battery compartment "key" with their puck style computers.

OP: a "key" can be easily made with an old bicyce spoke...stop by your local bicycle shop they will either have a broken one in a waste bin or you can purchase a new one usually for less than $2. Cut a length from the spoke then bend into a "V", then bend the ends of the "V" with a plier to approximately 90 degrees.

I think the one I made is about 2.5 inches long....small enough to fit in a save-a-dive kit with a spare battery, and cost me nothing, so if it gets lost, or loaned and not returned, I am not bothered and will just make another one.

They haven't been sold for years so I could be wrong but I don't think Suunto included a tool.

Aqualung certainly does for the i300 and they might be compatible.
