Does the wing come with bungees?

Not really looking at strict DIR right now, but the philisophy seems so safety conscious that I wanted to see what it would say about weight pockets vs. a belt. I am keeping my weight belt.

If I went total DIR right now I would need new regs, fins, mask, guages. I would be starting all over right now. So, I wanted to know the simplest and safest way to handle my weights.

That being said....you have me thinking about changing my wing order to a Dive Rite Venture wing.

Do the Bunjees make mouth inflation hard?

The guy on the phone at the store said the taco effect with AL 80 tank was not a biggie. Was he wrong? The whole wing discussion on the phone centered on the right wing for what I do, not getting the most lift.

I am an AOW that is going to start master diver training and maybe do a little tech. He said better to spend a little more now, than buy a whole new wing when the venture was not enough later.

I guess we will see.

Funny that someone used the Rec wing for 100 or 200 dives. And had no problems But went to an Oxycheq for better trim. If you buy the oxy first. You don't have to spend money twice. Buy the right wing first. Better on the pocket book. I don't have ANY use for the Dive Rite Rec wing. I'd use Oxycheq or Halcyon. The Trek wing is nice for AL80's. And can be used for side mount. These are for Optimum use. Or, buy a 6 foot sausage and no BC. It can be used as a BC but it will have Trim issues too...LOL... I had issues with trapped air with the Dive Rite Rec Wing. With the bunjees pulled. My Trek with Bunjees pulled had issues. That's why now. It has NO bunjees... And I don't use it with a single either... Now, while swiming I pull the dump and don't have to roll from one side to the other... Before, you did...

I know guy's that use Deep Outdoors big wings and love them too. With Single AL80's. Know guy's who use regular BC's and Love them. Know people who bicycle kick while swimming and love how they dive. Know girls who have Approx 20 pieces of junk clipped off to them underwater and stay vert the whole dive. And love how they dive too...

DIR or not. A big wing for a single tank. Doesn't make sense. Get a single tank wing. And later. Get a dual tank wing. I don't know anything about the venture.. All others here I've dove. Or still Own...

Now a FredT Stainless with a Halcyon 27lb. Now I'd go Oxy's Heavy duty or Halcyon Eclipse. But I have the 27lb and it's a great wing. No need for another yet. When it dies. I'll be getting one of those two.. For singles.

Probably others I'm missing. Now for Steel big duals I use the Oxy 70lb and Fred T AL. Fred T SSt and Trek for Al80's. Others are on Rb's... IDA71 and IDA72. Converted Russian Rebreathers..

North East sell Oxy and Halcyon. Get one of there single wings.. You'll be happier in the long run...

The RecWing uses a tension cord to keep the wing from bellowing out too much, but it's completely different than the bungees most often condemned by DIR types. Bungees wrap completely around the bladder and are much tighter. Most Dive Rite wings have used tension cords for years without incident.

I've used a RecWing exclusively with single E8-130's for a couple years now, and they work great. No trapping, no taco issues. Anyone who says otherwise probably hasn't used them or isn't a particularly competent diver. But it's true that RecWings aren't DIR compliant (if you're overly concerned with such matters).

Cool. I will try it out with the Rec wing. I am not going DIR whole hog, or even half hog (except my harness ).

I had asked a question about weight belts vs pocket and mentioned DIR because I figured they had a good sense for the safest/most efficient way to carry weight.

Don, if you're not going DIR, then the Rec Wing is quite OK for your needs. I was mainly thinking that if you were heading down that road, don't spend money on gear that won't be accepted as part of the configuration.

Sounds like that's not an issue. I'd say you'll be quite happy with the setup you've ordered.

I've dived many wings and BCs over the years, and have recently bought the DR Rec wing for single tank diving with drysuit and LOVE it! I bought the red for visibility, too--actually, they were out of the black and I would have had to wait for a couple weeks unless I was willing to take the red or blue--so I bought the red for visibility

I especially like the way the bungee holds the wing in nice and streamlined for single tank. Part of my motivation for buying the Rec is that I can remove the bungee and it will stand in for doubles diving if I ever have a gear problem while on a tech diving trip.

Enjoy your new set-up; I know you will!

I have been diving a transpac2 w/ a Rec wing for the last 120+ dives. I have dove this setup with five different tank sizes AL80, AL100, LP95, HP120, 72s. I haven't had a problem with any of them.

I leave the bungee tightened up a bit to keep the wing from tacoing. I am now making the switch to tech so I have a new wing, BP and harness from Abyss for my doubles (I bought them when they were going out of business). But I will still use the Dive Rite setup when I am diving singles.

Glad to hear you ordered your gear, don't worry about the bungie issues, it's all BS, a properly rigged bungie won't affect your effort when manually inflating the bladder, and will keep the wing from tacoing the tank. As for trapping air, all wings trap air one way or another due to the placements of the dump valves.

If your rig doesn't have the cam bands, you may consider getting one with the Scuba Pro configuration and use it as the bottom band, I read here somewhere that it'll ease the tank istallation a lot since the lower band will wrap around the tank and not slide over it.
I'm looking to do this modification to my rig, but since my bands are like new, I don't see me spending the extra $$$ for the new band, when time to upgrade or one of the plastic cams fails, that's the route I'll follow.
