Hammerhead II SS backplate with 2 peice STA

Hogarthian harness kit from Hammerhead

Dive Rite Rec Wing (red for visibility) from Northeast Scuba Supply-higher price than Leisure Pro, but they answered a ton of question on the phone and I have had Leisure Pro mess up my orders in the past. eBay did not seem right if I had a problem with the inflator or something.

$423 + shipping. Getting what I want and need at that price-priceless. ;)

I cannot figure out if I need cam straps with the Hammerhead STA or not. Any idea? Advice on cam straps if I need them?

Thanks for all your help. This experience is probably going to revolutionize how I dive.

Why don't instructors have OW students do this? It isn't that hard, and makes a lot more sense than a $600+ chest squeezing BC with a bunch of crap you never use.

Hope your using that wing with Duals only. For Singles. It's a hog. To much wing... I've used the trek wing with singles. And it's to much. Now I use it with AL80 duals.. It's 40 to 45lbs lift. The Rec is around 50 to 55lbs lift.. Good for duals. Taco's out on a single. Unless you use the Bunjees. But they would help trap air. So hard to get everything out..

Depends on a lot of factors.

FWIW - I used a Rec wing for singles diving for a couple hundred dives before switching over to Oxycheq wings. Never had any issues ... I just preferred the way the Oxycheq wings trimmed out. I have several dive buddies who use Rec wings for singles diving, and love them.

Oh ... and I used the bungees and didn't have any issues with trapped air.

Do the Bunjees make mouth inflation hard?

The guy on the phone at the store said the taco effect with AL 80 tank was not a biggie. Was he wrong? The whole wing discussion on the phone centered on the right wing for what I do, not getting the most lift.

I am an AOW that is going to start master diver training and maybe do a little tech. He said better to spend a little more now, than buy a whole new wing when the venture was not enough later.

I guess we will see.

I'm pretty sure that the Hammerhead kit doesn't include the two cam bands that you'll need. It's your call if you want regular 'plastic' buckles or the stainless steel variety. I simply bought a STA that included two SS buckles for less than the cost of two cam bands (locally).

Don, I ordered from the same two places just a week ago but a little different config.

An Al BP + one piece STA from Hammerhead and the Venture wing + SS cam bands from Northeast.

You will need the cam band, Hammerhead doesn't put them in with the harness package. If Northeast hasn't sent out your wing yet, just order it from them. I think it's about $25-30 per SS cam band. Make sure it's SS and not plastic.

Hey,
Congratulation. You know what you want to have. I am searching around my setup.

BTW, I am wondering if the price, $423 includes all items, BP,STA, and Wing?

Thanks in advance,

Oh ... I just noticed in another thread that you're thinking to go DIR. If that's the case, you're purchasing the wrong wing. The reason I changed over to an Oxycheq wing was so I could be "DIR compliant" for my Fundamentals class ... at which point I decided I liked the Oxycheq wing so much better I ended up getting another one and selling my Rec wing.

If your goal is DIR, my advice is to save yourself a transaction and get a DIR-compliant wing from the start ...

Its nice to see a fellow nurse doing some diving. I cannot say that I am a nurse as of yet considering that I am still in my program. I do have lots of diving experience though and I must say, "Good choice on your gear." My first BC was a Transpac II with a REC wing and I absolutely loved it. I dove both single and double tanks with that setup without any problems. You are going to want to keep the bungees on the wing for your single tanks but take it off for your doubles. Be safe and dive often.
