Hi all,

I've been loving my Orcatorch D630 (v.1 model), and it has never failed me over the last 1.5 years. However, recently I've started experiencing progressive issues with the battery. I contacted Orcatorch and while their communication and support have been great, there's been little help with this specific issue I'm facing. Unfortunately, Orcatorch's warranty is 1 year (2 years for the torch head) and this issue won't be covered. While I'm waiting for further follow-up communications from Orcatorch, I'm writing here to share my experience and to see if any gurus on SB here could help me out please? :)

Issues (reference pics attached):
-I initially noticed that the components behind the battery panel, such as the USB/power charging port and LED indicator bulbs, started sinking inward.
-When I loosened the battery screw cap, the battery cover/top panel completely detached from the body. According to Orcatorch, the battery cover is supposed to be glued and should not be removable.
-After the battery cap came off, I am now unable to charge the battery (though it was charging fine earlier). The LED indicator still turns on but the charging process doesn't start.

My Questions:
-What could be the possible cause of this issue?
-Is it possible to repair the battery at this stage?
-If I need to replace the battery, how can I remove/replace the battery from the canister? (Orcatorch sells an optional replacement battery, but I haven't found clear instructions on how to remove or replace it.)

Many thanks in advance!

Kaz

@OrcaTorch @OrcaTorch dive light @OrcaTorch's Amazon Dealer

Please take care of this SB member in his issues with the Orcatorch D630.
You advertise very heavily on SB and claim that your products are good, now it is time to show how good your aftersales service is for your customers.

When I had mine, I was able to unscrew it using that slightly threaded part you have your fingers on in the first picture, but I don't have the light anymore to take pictures - you can see what it looks like outside of the shell on their website, though. It sounds like the top piece on yours just wasn't/isn't properly attached (and I'm not sure if it's easily fixable). The part you have unattached is on the removable battery piece, so in theory you could do whatever to get it unscrewed (i.e. use some tools that may damage it to help unscrew it) and replace it with the replacement battery.

Or consider the cost of the battery as a discount towards another primary light ;D I moved to a Dive Rite EX35 and have been happy so far

Amazing thank you so much for your advice!! I will give it a try and remove the battery off + await for the response from OrcaTorch. If it fails then moving onto option D! :D

how was orcatorch’s post sales customer support?

Do let us know if there are any updates on the CS service and also if there are any solutions. Thinking to get a D630 V2.0 soon the extra info would come in handy!

@Kaz N have you gotten the battery out yet?

I like the D630 a lot, but the proprietary battery is a huge shortcoming. I guess the idea is to have 4 balanced cells that can't be messed with, which sort of makes sense, but batteries die eventually. The cost of the replacement is a little salty too.
